This weekend our Scouts visited the Shuttleworth Collection - an excellent day out! They were able to sit inside an Avro Anson, and saw the world's oldest airworthy aircraft (a Bleriot Type XI, identical to the one Louis Bleriot used to cross the English Channel in 1909).

What a fantastic weekend for 1st Somersham Scouts! 🏕️

Last weekend, 39 young people aged 4–14 enjoyed our annual group camp, supported by 10 leaders, 3 amazing parent helpers who camped with us and 2 others who assisted with catering. Everyone camped on Friday night, with our Cubs and Scouts staying on for a second night of adventure.

Throughout the weekend, our young people had the chance to try a range of activities including archery, the ever-popular cannon run, pioneering and building mini catapults. 🏹🚀

Our Cubs also took part in their annual Weekend on the Water session, organised by the Sea Scouts, giving them the opportunity to enjoy some exciting water-based activities. 🏄‍♀️

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, parent helpers and everyone who helped make the weekend such a success. Seeing so many young people enjoying the outdoors, learning new skills and making memories is what Scouting is all about. 💚

Last night our Scouts explored Ely, England's second-smallest city. A particular highlight was the Knife Angel, a touring monument created by sculptor Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre. It has been crafted from more than 100,000 knives and blades confiscated by police forces across the UK, and serves as a powerful symbol of the human cost of knife crime and violence.

Congratulations to Beaver Jarrett for winning the Cromwell District 50th Birthday badge competition, and a huge well done to runners up Thomas (pictured), Evan and Sebby.
Certificates were awarded at our annual St George’s Day event today.

It's not just the kids who have fun at Scouts. This weekend one of our adult volunteers joined with other District members to take part in the annual Monopoly Run. Thirty-six Cromwell District adult volunteers, Scout Network members and Explorers travelled to London to visit different locations and answer questions - all against the clock!

Today, we celebrate 55 years of adventure, friendship, and community! Since our founding in 1970, we’ve helped generations of young people develop skills, build confidence, and create lifelong memories.

A huge thank you to all the young people, leaders, volunteers, and supporters—past and present—who’ve made our group what it is today. Here’s to the next 55 years of fun, learning, and making a difference!

Today we celebrate Founder’s Day in Scouting 🎉

On 22nd February, we remember Robert Baden-Powell, on his birthday - founder of the worldwide Scout Movement, and his vision of adventure, friendship and learning by doing. It’s a day to reflect on the skills, confidence and community that Scouting brings to young people across the world 🌍

It’s also a special milestone year for our younger sections:

🔴 Squirrels are turning 5
🔵 Beavers are celebrating 40 years
🟢 Cubs are marking 110 years

That’s generations of young people gaining skills for life, making friends, exploring outdoors and having fun along the way.
