Congratulations to Beaver Jarrett for winning the Cromwell District 50th Birthday badge competition, and a huge well done to runners up Thomas (pictured), Evan and Sebby.
Certificates were awarded at our annual St George’s Day event today.

It's not just the kids who have fun at Scouts. This weekend one of our adult volunteers joined with other District members to take part in the annual Monopoly Run. Thirty-six Cromwell District adult volunteers, Scout Network members and Explorers travelled to London to visit different locations and answer questions - all against the clock!

Happy 55th Birthday to Our Scout Group!

Today, we celebrate 55 years of adventure, friendship, and community! Since our founding in 1970, we’ve helped generations of young people develop skills, build confidence, and create lifelong memories.

A huge thank you to all the young people, leaders, volunteers, and supporters—past and present—who’ve made our group what it is today. Here’s to the next 55 years of fun, learning, and making a difference!

Today we celebrate Founder’s Day in Scouting 🎉

On 22nd February, we remember Robert Baden-Powell, on his birthday - founder of the worldwide Scout Movement, and his vision of adventure, friendship and learning by doing. It’s a day to reflect on the skills, confidence and community that Scouting brings to young people across the world 🌍

It’s also a special milestone year for our younger sections:

🔴 Squirrels are turning 5
🔵 Beavers are celebrating 40 years
🟢 Cubs are marking 110 years

That’s generations of young people gaining skills for life, making friends, exploring outdoors and having fun along the way.

Happy Founder’s Day to all our volunteers, young people and supporters — thank you for keeping the adventure going! ⚜️🔥

Tonight our Scouts took part in a digital mapping exercise, to learn about how maps are used in responding to disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes. The scenario: over the weekend, Somersham had been devastated by Hurricane Nigel! Roads were blocked, houses destroyed and residents made homeless. In the aftermath, Scouts were deployed as part of the disaster relief effort. They used GPS handsets to take waypoints, which were uploaded to create a map of the destruction. They also considered where best to site facilities such as a medical centre, a shelter for people in need of food and somewhere to sleep, and a coordination centre for aid agencies and other volunteers.

Many thanks to the local businesses who agreed to take part, and to Dr Steven Godby of Nottingham Trent University for facilitating the evening and providing the GPS handsets.

Today, Scouts from Somersham and EBC carried out some work at the Nature Reserve. They removed saplings to create a clearing, to help sunlight pe*****te and give lower-growing plants the chance to thrive. With the cut wood, they then made a log pile for insects and other small creatures. Great effort and enthusiasm from everyone! And many thanks to Adam for leading the work and showing the young people new skills.
