To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, here is a letter from one of our participants, Archie.
It’s me, Archie! Can you believe that it is World Down Syndrome Day 2026 already! The last year has been really brilliant.
In the spring, the Easter Bunny visited & we had an awesome Easter egg hunt!
In April, my favourite football team won a really big competition, we put our Liverpool flag up & had so much fun.
In May, I did something really special. I took part in my first ever riding competition with the RDA. It was at a big Castle and we came 4th!
In June, we went on holiday all the way to Wales & went to the seaside too.
In July, something else really amazing happened, I joined a football team! I get to put on my football kit every Sunday and go to training. I think I might like to be a goalie!
August was great fun. I went to the zoo & saw lots of animals. I had my very own birthday party with my best friends and all my family came too!
In September, I had an operation to help me hear better. I was very brave, but it’s really helped.
In October we decorated our house for Halloween and I went trick or treating, it was so much fun.
In November, I started cooking! I’m still practicing, and my first dish was red pepper & tinned custard (not the cat) Yummy!
December was the best. I was an angel in our school nativity. At Christmas we had lunch with Nanny Ros & Grandad & went to Nanny Gill’s house on Boxing Day for her famous indoor firework display!
As January is a bit dull, I thought I’d mention school. It’s going really well. My new TA, Mrs S. is wonderful, but don’t worry, I still get to see Mrs A!
In February we started riding again, I ride Millie now but always love seeing Red & my other Thursday friends.
Thank you for reading about my year and please put on your odd socks today to represent the odd number of chromosomes I have (& chromosomes are sock shaped!).
Remember though, there is nothing odd about me. My name is Archie and I have Down Syndrome.
P.S This year, I thought it would be great fun if you share a photo of your odd socks in the comments, so I can make a big colourful collage out of them!
Love Archie xx
