🌟 Partnership of the Month: Rachael Clay & We Gotta Getaway, (Quiz to his friends)🌟

We’re thrilled to announce our Partnership of the Month—congratulations to Rachael and their wonderful former racehorse, We Gotta Getaway!🏇🐴

“ I first met Quiz as he’s known to his friends in Feb 2025, he’d last raced in June 2024. I saw his advert on FB and a friend also sent me the advert more or less simultaneously. A road trip ensued and when we went to see him he whinnied over the door so it was love at first sight. I had lost my top horse unexpectedly the year before in a field accident and hadn’t been really looking for a new horse but once we’d seen Quiz’ cheeky face I was sold. He is such a lovely horse to be around and although he has a bit of cheek and sass he tries very hard in everything we do.

We did some club nights, camps and training last year just having some fun and quietly getting to know each other although he does have a habit of worrying everyone when we stay away as he loves a fresh bed so spends all of his time rolling so they think he is unwell! We were invited to be part of a realistic RoR retraining day last year and he loved showing off to the audience.

We’ve had a great start to the year this year doing BD CT, his first BD tests along with some unaffiliated ones too and we had a fab time at the RoR Winter champs and are hoping to go to Aintree in August. We’ve been to some great clinics and are starting to play around more with SJ and cross country although he isn’t a huge fan of getting his feet wet just at the minute.

It’s well over 25yrs since I had my first ex racer, quiz is my fourth, and RoR has evolved so much during that time. There are so many more opportunities for support, training and competing with ex racers now. We’ve made some great friends through RoR competitions and training and everyone has been so supportive, especially Robyn who helped me massively when I had some wobbles in confidence at the start.

The dream would be to event again one day but whether we do or we don’t I am loving riding this fab little chap and feel incredibly lucky to have found him. We are very excited to be partnership of the month thank you. “

Rachael is a shining example of how ongoing learning can benefit both horse and rider.

A fantastic day today at the Connolly's RED MILLS RoR Eventing Championships, held in conjunction with BEDE Events 💚💚

It was wonderful to see so many former racehorses showcased in the eventing arena and to celebrate the versatility, talent and partnership these horses continue to demonstrate beyond their racing careers.

A lovely atmosphere throughout the day, and it was great meeting so many competitors, owners and supporters. Very well done to everyone who took part — you should all be incredibly proud of your horses and achievements.

A huge thank you to BEDE Events and Connolly’s RED MILLS for their support and for hosting such a fantastic championship event.

We are aware of concerns about the condition of a broodmare due to go through the sales on Saturday.

We have been in contact with industry partners and welfare contacts to establish what we can about the mare, her history and the circumstances that have led to this point.

From the records available to us, we understand that she last raced in 2015 and had her last recorded foal in 2019. We do not currently hold any records relating to her care or ownership after that point.

RoR does not have the power to remove a horse from a public sale. However, our welfare team is liaising directly with McCartneys, who have confirmed that she will not be allowed to go through the ring if she is not deemed fit to do so.

McCartneys have also given assurances around the protocols in place at the sale, including welfare officers on site, their equine vet and Trading Standards present. They also have our contact details should they need to get in touch on the day.

This case highlights the importance of responsible ownership throughout a horse’s life after racing or breeding. When circumstances change, it is vital that owners seek appropriate advice and put responsible plans in place.

We will continue to make enquiries through the appropriate channels and remain in close contact with relevant partners. Our priority is to understand the situation as fully as possible and to encourage the best possible outcome for the mare.

It was a really insightful day, with so much knowledge and information shared, from answering questions to ridden demos showcasing horses at different stages of retraining 💚

What a brilliant group of members – making the most of a full day of dressage, showjumping and cross country on grass 🌿🐎

It was the perfect opportunity to build confidence, gain valuable knowledge, and develop skills ready for future eventing outings 💪✨
