IASK is a leading charity that supports people seeking asylum, refugees and migrants in Kirklees. In order to ensure that people seeking asylum and refugees can live safe and fulfilling lives, we are committed to promoting positive change. We are committed to providing assistance and support for our clients, providing them with a safe and secure environment in which to establish friendships and co

nnections in local communities and ensuring that they have a positive experience living in Kirklees. Throughout Kirklees, IASK is continually adapting and responding to local needs. A key part of our strategy is to support people through the asylum process so that they can begin to rebuild their lives in a safe environment. It is our goal to assist our clients at the beginning of their asylum process, throughout the process, and afterward. Together with our partners, we offer two drop-in centres per week, called Welcome Clubs, where we provide most of our services. With the dedication and hard work of our amazing team of trained volunteers, our Welcome Clubs are well attended each week. Hudawi Centre, Huddersfield, HD1 6BG

The services that we provide are available to those seeking asylum, refugees as well as migrants throughout Kirklees. We offer a wide range of services and are constantly expanding and developing new programs that may be of assistance to our clients. Another busy drop-in this week with 72 clients through our doors!

West Yorkshire Paths joined us to raise awareness of their specialist perinatal mental health service, providing psychological therapy and specialist midwifery support for women and birthing people affected by birth trauma and baby loss.

We also had the Community Connector from Community Plus and the Kirklees Wellness Service, who were raising awareness about smoking and the support available to help people quit. Thank you to everyone who came along this week.

We always welcome partner organisations to join our drop-in to share their services, raise awareness, and connect with our clients.

We ended Refugee Week with a joyful garden party, bringing people together through food, games, laughter, and friendship.

We were delighted to collaborate with the Huddersfield Quaker Meeting and welcome our local community police officer, Nicola, who joined us in the spirit of connection and inclusion.

The sunshine made it even more special as people came together, meaningful conversations,made new friends, and enjoyed each other’s company.

This Refugee Week, we’re celebrating Courage.

For refugees and people seeking sanctuary, courage can mean leaving behind everything familiar, escaping persecution, and facing an uncertain future in search of safety.
It can mean learning a new language, rebuilding confidence, making new connections, and creating a sense of home once again.

To mark Refugee Week, our clients and volunteers created badges sharing their superpowers and messages to the world.
Their words reflect the strength, resilience, kindness and hope that help people overcome challenges and move forward.

At IASK, we are proud to support refugees and people seeking sanctuary as they rebuild their lives in Kirklees. Every day, we see individuals contributing their skills, experiences and talents to our communities, while working towards brighter futures for themselves and their families.

This week, we celebrate those journeys, the communities that offer welcome and support, and the power of standing together.
