The UK Department of Transport investigates National Highways’ handling, governance and accountability of speed-camera flaws that led to thousands of drivers incorrectly recorded as breaking road speed limits.
An investigation has been ordered into National Highways’ handling of a speed-camera flaw that led to thousands of drivers being incorrectly recorded as breaking the limit.
Heidi Alexander, the transport secretary, will announce this week that an expert-led review will examine whether the agency and its senior leadership acted appropriately and fast enough when the problem was uncovered. It will also try to uncover why the flaw was not spotted earlier.
The investigation, headed by a non-executive director of the Department for Transport (DfT), will also make recommendations on governance and accountability, suggesting that executives could face censure.
