After a few busy monthly meetings, in May we just sat, stitched and chatted. A welcome breather in a busy year. Some lovely work on show again including crazy patchwork flags for our exhibition bunting.

Our Spring Lunch in April was a good old fashioned Yorkshire Buffet. The “cabaret” afterwards revealed our oldest Works in Progress. We had psychedelic fish and birds, paper piecing started at school, crochet edgings, lock down start ups, abandoned knitting, wedding mementoes and needlepoint optimistically dated. Our oldest WIP emigrated from New Zealand in 1966 with its student nurse owner. A drawn thread work tablecloth started at an embroidery class to fill spare time but abandoned in favour of a French cookery course. Our next meeting will be a sit and sew day after some very busy months. There is also an early notice of our Exhibition coming up in September.

At our March meeting we enjoyed a talk by Diane Bates a textile artist who created the Painted Lady Collection of 30 garments. Diane trained at Goldsmiths College and was mentored by Constance Howard a pioneer of creative embroidery in the last century. Our April meeting is also our Spring Lunch and we will be sharing our oldest WIPs if we dare!
