Christian African Relief Trust - CART

Christian African Relief Trust - CART Resourcing development, caring for people, run by volunteers in the UK and overseas.
40 Years Old! The with minimal amount of overheads are paid.

Christian African Relief Trust is run by local volunteers based in West Yorkshire. It relies entirely on voluntary contributions with no salaried staff. Supporters are assured that supplies are only sent to registered charities or organisations that will faithfully oversee the distribution on the ground to the most needy and poor, especially children, regardless of caste or creed. The Trustees dem

and feedback on how your donations have been distributed. The reports make very heart-warming and moving reading – see our Newletters for more details. Generous donations of blankets, clothing, bicycles, and computers, medical, scholastic and vocational training items are sorted and packed by individuals or groups. The annual Harvest Appeal brings in dried and tinned foodstuffs, school stationery and other specialist items. As often as funds allow, a 40ft container is packed full to overflowing ready for dispatch from our Huddersfield warehouse. It costs on average £7500 to send a 40ft container. The cost of sending containers rises year on year, and CART needs to raise £150,000 each year to maintain our current programme. Remember that every penny you give goes directly towards transporting goods from the UK to Africa. It costs about £12 to handle & dispatch a standard box to African destinations. YOUR £12 donation can send:

ONE Box containing about 85 items; OR
ONE Box of food containing packets of pulses, pasta, rice, and tins; OR
ONE ‘Aquabox’ filled with water purifying and emergency aid. YOUR £25 donation can send:

2 wheelchairs OR
2 mattresses OR
2 bicycles OR
2 First Aid boxes

As well as sending much needed basic resources to Africa, the charity also supports an increasing number of development projects that allow people living in Africa to improve their own situation.

🎉 Creating Opportunities Through Skills Training

These students at Tibani Technical and Vocational Institute in Ghana are benefiting from sewing and weaving machines that have been given a new purpose.

Over the first three years of our Skills Training Project, a small number of beneficiaries were unable to complete their training. Rather than allowing the equipment to sit unused, the machines were recovered and donated to a vocational school where they can help train many future students.

What was once intended to change one life can now help shape the futures of dozens of young people.

Thank you to everyone who supports CART and makes projects like this possible. Together, we are creating opportunities, building skills, and investing in brighter futures.

🌍 Changing Lives in Zimbabwe – One Community at a Time

As we prepare our next container shipment to Zimbabwe later this month, we would like to take a moment to highlight the incredible work being carried out by our partners at Community Project Zimbabwe.

Since 2017, their work in Mudzi District has touched countless lives through projects focused on education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development.

Some of the initiatives supported include:
✅ Beekeeping projects that continue to provide income for local families
✅ Goat-rearing schemes helping families raise money for school fees and household needs
✅ Community hatcheries and poultry projects improving food security
✅ Bicycles for health workers, traditional leaders, and schoolchildren
✅ Carpentry equipment and support for youth groups
✅ Computers and science equipment for schools
✅ Library books and educational resources for children
✅ 900 sets of baby clothing distributed to new mothers through local clinics

These projects demonstrate how practical support, local knowledge, and community involvement can create lasting change.

We are proud to support Community Project Zimbabwe and look forward to seeing what can be achieved through the next shipment.

Thank you to everyone who donates, volunteers, and supports our work. Together, we are helping communities build brighter futures.

We build the capacity of communities and of the country at large in addressing the effects of droughts, variability of weather patterns and deteriorating socio economic conditions in the country.

🎓 Three Years of Hard Work Pays Off

Congratulations to Vida Severa Minobal, who has successfully completed her three-year sewing course.

Vida joined our Skills Training Project in 2022, where support from CART helped cover the costs of her training. In March 2026, she proudly graduated and is now equipped with the skills needed to build her future.

Stories like Vida's show the lasting impact that education and vocational training can have. A small investment in someone's potential can create opportunities that last a lifetime.

We are incredibly proud of her achievement and wish her every success in the future.

This project aims to improve access to water and support irrigation for local communities and small-scale farming.

The wider project also includes solar-powered irrigation equipment and water storage tanks to help support food production during the dry season.

Thank you for continuing to support CART and the work being carried out alongside local partners in Malawi 💚

Today we want to recognise one of our wonderful CART volunteers, Alaa 😊

Alaa regularly PAT tests our electrical donations and is always willing to help wherever needed — including helping to load our containers before they are shipped overseas.

This photo shows Alaa receiving his British citizenship from the Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire at Huddersfield Town Hall yesterday, 7th May 🇬🇧

Congratulations, Alaa, and thank you for everything you do for CART 👏

📣 Spreading the word about CART

Hilary Hegarty recently gave a talk at the Worsborough Village Mothers’ Union, sharing more about CART and the work of the Mothers’ Union in Malawi.

It was a great opportunity to connect, raise awareness, and highlight the impact of the projects being supported.

A big thank you to Hilary for taking the time to speak, and to everyone who attended and showed their support 💛

📦 A fantastic donation received this morning!

We’re delighted to share that the University of Huddersfield has kindly donated furniture they no longer need — including chairs, tables and storage units.

These items will now be sent to Africa to support schools and communities.

A big thank you to Huddersfield University for their generosity 🙏

And to our volunteers who make this possible every step of the way 💛
