Handing the Project to the Community

🤝 The final step is always the most important...

Once the system had been fully tested, it was officially handed over to the local project committee and Emmanuel Christian Church.

This marks the beginning of the next chapter.

The community now has ownership of a sustainable irrigation system that will support farming, strengthen food security and improve livelihoods for years to come.

Projects like this succeed because local communities are involved every step of the way—from planning through to completion.

The System is Installed!

🎉 Great news from Mgabu!

The solar-powered irrigation system has now been successfully installed and is fully operational.

Seeing the completed water tank standing proudly above the fields is a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when people work together.

Reliable irrigation means farmers can continue growing crops during the dry season, helping families produce more food and generate additional income.

This isn't simply a water tank.

It's hope.
It's opportunity.
It's a more secure future.

When Challenges Slow Progress

🌧️ Not every project goes exactly to plan...

The irrigation project was originally expected to be completed earlier this year.

However, exceptionally heavy rains across Malawi, particularly in the Lower Shire region, made roads almost impossible to travel.

Transporting materials safely and installing the large water tank simply wasn't possible until conditions improved.

Rather than rushing the work, our partners waited until everything could be completed safely and correctly.

Sometimes the greatest progress comes through patience.

We're grateful to everyone who continued supporting this project despite the unexpected delays.

Gathering the Equipment

☀️ Piece by piece, the project came together.

Once planning was complete, the equipment was carefully purchased and inspected.

✔️ Solar panels
✔️ Irrigation pump
✔️ 5,000 litre water tank

Each part plays an important role in creating a reliable irrigation system that doesn't rely on expensive fuel or electricity.

By using solar power, this project will continue supporting farmers for many years while keeping running costs low.

Sometimes progress isn't measured by dramatic moments—but by carefully preparing every detail.

A New Opportunity for Mgabu

💧 Every successful project begins with a conversation...

Before any equipment arrived, our partners from Seed Sowers Trust met with Emmanuel Christian Church to inspect the site and discuss how this project could benefit the local community.

Together they identified the best location for a solar-powered irrigation system that will provide water during the dry season, helping families grow crops throughout the year instead of relying solely on the rainy season.

This project is about much more than installing equipment—it's about creating opportunities for long-term food security and improving household incomes.

🧵 From Prison to a New Beginning

When Batuuro Yawle arrived in prison in 2024, he began learning weaving as part of a rehabilitation programme.

He worked hard, took his training seriously, and developed valuable new skills. Following his release in April 2026, he was presented with his own weaving machine and welcomed home by his family.

With the support of prison officers and community monitoring, Batuuro now has the opportunity to build a sustainable future through honest work and entrepreneurship.

Every skill learned is a step towards independence. Every second chance is an opportunity for transformation.

❤️ A Second Chance Can Change Everything

Meet Emmanuel Souyelle, a 42-year-old man who spent three years in prison following a conviction for dangerous driving.

While serving his sentence, Emmanuel learned the skill of smock sewing using training materials provided through a CART-supported project. Upon his release in April 2026, prison staff presented him with his sewing equipment so that he could start rebuilding his life.

Today, Emmanuel is running his own sewing business and is already helping to train younger people.

His story reminds us that people are more than their mistakes. With support, opportunity and determination, lives can be transformed.

🎉 Creating Opportunities Through Skills Training

These students at Tibani Technical and Vocational Institute in Ghana are benefiting from sewing and weaving machines that have been given a new purpose.

Over the first three years of our Skills Training Project, a small number of beneficiaries were unable to complete their training. Rather than allowing the equipment to sit unused, the machines were recovered and donated to a vocational school where they can help train many future students.

What was once intended to change one life can now help shape the futures of dozens of young people.

🌍 Changing Lives in Zimbabwe – One Community at a Time

As we prepare our next container shipment to Zimbabwe later this month, we would like to take a moment to highlight the incredible work being carried out by our partners at Community Project Zimbabwe.

Since 2017, their work in Mudzi District has touched countless lives through projects focused on education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development.

Some of the initiatives supported include:
✅ Beekeeping projects that continue to provide income for local families
✅ Goat-rearing schemes helping families raise money for school fees and household needs
✅ Community hatcheries and poultry projects improving food security
✅ Bicycles for health workers, traditional leaders, and schoolchildren
✅ Carpentry equipment and support for youth groups
✅ Computers and science equipment for schools
✅ Library books and educational resources for children
✅ 900 sets of baby clothing distributed to new mothers through local clinics

These projects demonstrate how practical support, local knowledge, and community involvement can create lasting change.

We are proud to support Community Project Zimbabwe and look forward to seeing what can be achieved through the next shipment.
