🇬🇩Black History Month Health Expo | Kirklees College
🇯🇲 Theme: Standing Firm in Power & Pride
(Late post because I’m just recovering from another crisis in my leg which occurred the day after this event)🥹 But my God is bigger and stronger than Sickle Cell 🙏🏾
What an amazing, powerful day of unity, learning, healing and empowerment!
I was invited to share my lived experience with Sickle Cell, and delivered a spoken word “The Strength in my Blood”, expressing the importance of faith, advocacy, self-care, having the resilience mindset of a warrior woman and raising awareness in my community.
It was an absolute honour to be introduced to the stage by the incredible Judith Jacob, actress and Sickle Cell CAUSE Ambassador, who delivered a heartfelt keynote raising awareness on advocacy, the symptoms and treatment options for this debilitating disease, and her impactful work with Sickle Cell CAUSE, reminding us that health truly is wealth, and each one of us has the power to teach and uplift one another.
Together, we explored:
🩸 The importance of blood donation within Black communities
🌿 The benefits of body cleansing and holistic health
💬 The strength of shared stories and lived experience
A huge thank you to Mel Mills and Kirklees College for hosting such a meaningful event and inviting me to break my silence in a space where I previously worked as a Progress Coach during . I’ve wanted to speak on this topic for many many years 🙏🏾
I am truly grateful 🤍
This is a strong reminder that when we come together to help one another and share knowledge, we strengthen our community.💪🏾🫂
