Based in the historic Bates Mill and established in 2010, HCAN works in partnership with the public and private sectors to develop and deliver outstanding arts and music projects that contribute to making better places, bring together communities and develop innovative approaches to public art. HCAN is looking to develop arts initiatives in partnership with a wide variety of private, statutory and
voluntary sector organsations with the aims of promoting a wide range of social benefits including community relations development, social inclusion and personal development. Our programme is part funded by Kirklees Council a recognition of our commitment to helping to make Kirklees known and seen as an exceptionally creative place locally and worldwide by 2020. The members/partners of HCAN believe that arts are a unique and powerful tool for promoting community cohesion and economic regeneration. In particular, we are working towards a program that will:
• facilitate knowledge exchange and intergeneration/multi-genre networking
• provide Huddersfield’s residents with the opportunity to develop their skills, increase their professional expertise and build their own creative arts products and events
• demonstrate Huddersfield’s confidence in its unique and high quality creative offer
