Today, we’re highlighting falls in the home as part of Child Safety Week.
Guidance from the Child Accident Prevention Trust shows that falls are one of the most common injuries for babies and toddlers — often happening in everyday living spaces as children grow, explore and become more mobile.
You can help reduce the risk of falls by:

Supervising children on sofas, beds and raised surfaces
Keeping furniture away from windows
Padding sharp corners on furniture
Creating clear, clutter‑free floor spaces

At Fresh Futures, we support children and families with Safety in the Home support for eligible households — helping turn awareness into prevention. If you are or know someone that can benefit from this initiative, share this or contact us on [email protected] or 01484 415465.

Small changes at home can help protect growing, curious children.

Recently, 7 amazing participants took on the challenge of abseiling down Wainhouse Tower in Halifax — and it’s an incredible 77 metres high! 😱
Together, they raised £1,500 💙 truly going above and beyond (or over the edge!) for charity.

These funds will help support disadvantaged children, families, and young people across Kirklees, making a real difference where it’s needed most 🙌

A huge thank you to everyone involved for your bravery and commitment — we’re so proud of you all 👏

Today, we’re shining a light on poisoning and swallowing hazards⚠️

Young children explore the world by putting things in their mouths, which means everyday items like medicines, cleaning products and small batteries can be especially dangerous at home.

Simple steps that can help reduce the risk include:

▫️ Storing medicines and cleaning products locked away and out of reach
▫️ Using cupboard locks on low‑level units
▫️ Keeping chemicals in their original containers
▫️ Checking toys and household items for loose or accessible button batteries
▫️ Buying toys and electrical items from trusted, age‑appropriate retailers

As part of Child Safety Week, we’re sharing practical ways families can help prevent serious accidents before they happen.

At Fresh Futures, we support children and families with Safety in the Home support for eligible households — helping turn awareness into prevention. If you are or know someone that can benefit from this initiative, share this or contact us on [email protected] or 01484 415465.

Today, we’re shining a light on burns and scalds 🔥

Burns and scalds are one of the most common injuries for babies and young children at home — often caused by everyday things like hot drinks, cooking and heating.

If a burn or scald does happen, there’s an important rule to remember:
👉 The 50p rule — if a burn or scald on a baby or toddler is bigger than a 50p coin, it’s advised to seek medical attention.

As part of Child Safety Week, we’re sharing practical information to help families spot risks early and make small changes that can make a big difference. Visit our website to see the FREE accident prevention training. https://freshfutures.org.uk/accident-prevention-elearning/

At Fresh Futures, we support children and families through practical advice, learning opportunities and Safety in the Home support for eligible households.

Today, we’re shining a light on water safety 💧

For babies and toddlers, water can be dangerous very quickly — especially during bath time. Drowning can happen silently and in seconds, even in shallow water.
Simple ways to help keep children safe at home include:

▫️ Never leaving a baby or toddler alone in the bath
▫️Staying within arm’s reach at all times
▫️Emptying baths, buckets and containers straight after use
▫️Using non‑slip bath mats to help prevent slips

When out and about near larger bodies of water such as ponds, rivers or lakes:

▪️ Keep children close and supervised at all times
▪️Be aware of slippery edges and sudden drop‑offs
▪️Avoid distractions, even for a moment

As part of Child Safety Week, we’re sharing practical steps families can take to reduce everyday risks and keep children safer around water.

Today, we shine a light on suffocation risks — one of the less obvious dangers for babies and young children at home.

Babies and toddlers don’t yet have the strength or awareness to move away if their breathing becomes restricted. This means soft items, sleep spaces and everyday surroundings can sometimes become a risk without us realising.

As part of Child Safety Week, we’re sharing simple, practical steps families can take to help reduce these hidden risks and create safer spaces for little ones.

At Fresh Futures, we support children and families by offering practical safety advice, signposting to learning, and providing Safety in the Home support for eligible families — helping turn awareness into action.

Today marks the start of Child Safety Week 💛

At Fresh Futures, we’re a children and family charity supporting families to give children the safest possible start in life. Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing simple, practical information to help raise awareness of everyday risks at home — and how they can be reduced.

One of our key projects is Safety in the Home, which supports eligible families with free home safety equipment, including:

▫️ Safety gates
▫️Fireguards
▫️Cupboard locks
▫️Sofa corner cushions
▫️Blind cord winders
…and more.

If you are or know someone that can benefit from this initiative, contact us on [email protected] or 01484 415465.

We also signpost to free accident prevention e‑learning, available to anyone who would like to learn more, provided by Kirklees Council.👉️ https://freshfutures.org.uk/accident-prevention-elearning/

Together, small changes, shared knowledge and practical support can make a big difference for children and families.
