As the funding for Creative Steps is ending today, I would just like to share a few of our achievements. It has been an amazing programme that has allowed people to meet, connect, and be their true creative self 🌟
I would like to thank all of our wonderful creative organisations who have hosted volunteers and delivered so many varied workshops.
I also want to say a huge thank you to all the participants on the programme for really making it such a fun and welcoming space - keep being creative! 🧡

Creative steps participants had a final get-together on Friday, we chatted, drank tea, ate cake, and of course got a bit creative! It was great to celebrate everyone who has achieved so much on the programme 🌟

As the funding for Creative Steps comes to an end at the end of March it was a lovely way to reflect on everything we have done over the past 2 years. We will be sharing some of these reflections over the next week ❤️

Applications are now OPEN for Our Cultural Heart! 📣

We’re excited to share the launch of Our Cultural Heart, a new funding opportunity supporting cultural and creative projects across Kirklees.

Delivered by One Community Foundation and funded through the Our Cultural Heart programme from Kirklees Council and BAM, this fund will help voluntary and community groups bring inspiring ideas to life in their local areas.

Projects could include:
🎨 Arts, culture and heritage activities
🌿 Projects connecting people with nature and wellbeing
🤝 Initiatives that bring communities together and reduce isolation
💡 Opportunities that support disadvantaged or underrepresented groups

There are two ways to apply:
• Grants up to £10,000
• Grants between £10,000 – £25,000

📅 Round 1 is open now and closes on 22 April 2026.

To celebrate HuddLitFest’s 20th anniversary, we’re inviting writers aged 16+ to submit up to 500 words from an unpublished novel, short story, or non-fiction work.

Our Festival team will select a longlist of 20 writers, whose work will be published on our website and who will receive free entry to the launch event. From there, 10 finalists will be shortlisted and invited to read their work live on the night.

The judges on the night – including novelist Simon Crump – will then choose a winner, who will receive a £50 book voucher and two runners-up, who will each receive a £10 book voucher.

Deadline for entries is Sunday 29 March (midnight) 🚨

Launch Event 👉 7 May, 6 - 7.30pm
Amped, 29 Zetland St, Huddersfield

📌 Please note: This competition is for prose only. Poetry submissions will not be entered (but poets are welcome at our Open Mic events and Poetry Slam).
