A brilliant performance this lunchtime by guitarist Arie Dakesian! It may have been raining outside but Arie brought musical sunshine to us with a fantastic programme including music from Spain, Armenia and Argentina, as well as his own composition. Tarrega’s sparkling Variations on the Carnival of Venice were the perfect finale, and we were also treated to a beautiful Charles Aznavour encore☀️🎶

Huge thanks to Arie, to everyone in the audience who came along today (a full house!), to our wonderful team of volunteers, audiovisual engineer Steve Brookfield CA3 Production Services and John Thompson of Howden Camera Club 🙏

What a lovely afternoon concert yesterday - the first in our ‘Nurturing Talent’ programme for emerging young artists. We were delighted to welcome the talented violinist Grace Marwood, accompanied by Amy Butler. The audience were treated to a performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto, followed by popular works by Ponce/Heifetz and Kreisler and a beautiful encore of Danny Boy, arranged by Kreisler 🎻

Grace grew up only a mile from Howden and, following a degree in Music from Durham, she will be heading off to the Royal Northern College of Music this autumn for a Master’s in Violin Performance. Very best wishes from us all for your continuing musical journey Grace!
