The mission of Off the Fence is to eradicate social and spiritual poverty in Brighton & Hove, engaging with individuals to create a new level of hope in the City. Off the Fence provides short and long-term solutions by delivering a range of support networks to empower people and prevent poverty in all its forms. There was a real sense of warmth and thankfulness at our recent Harvest celebration at Gateway. The centre was beautifully decorated for the season, and the women enjoyed spending time at our interactive prayer station, reflecting on the blessings in their lives and all that they are grateful for.

In a busy world, it's important to pause, give thanks, and celebrate the simple things that bring hope and encouragement. We were delighted to share this special time together. ❤️🙏

This Harvest, five of the women we support joined Rosie to prepare a wonderful lunch for our Harvest service, including homemade soups and a delicious apple & blackberry crumble.

It was a joy to see their hard work enjoyed by everyone at our drop-in the following day. More importantly, it gave the women a real sense of achievement and the opportunity to give back to their community.

We were also encouraged to see several women taking part in the Harvest service by reading Scripture and even contributing to our Harvest collection to support others in the group.

Moments like these remind us of the power of community, belonging, and people using their gifts to bless others in the city. ❤️🌾

World Homeless Day is this Saturday.

It’s an opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness in our city and to consider how, together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing practical ways that individuals, families, churches, and local communities can support those who are struggling and help create a more compassionate Brighton & Hove.

At Off The Fence, our Antifreeze Programme provides vital support, warmth, and connection for people experiencing homelessness during the colder months. As temperatures begin to drop, this work becomes more important than ever.

Our Antifreeze Day Centre is currently in particular need of:

👟 Size 8, 9 & 10 shoes
👖 Small and medium-sized trousers
👕 Small and medium-sized t-shirts
🧴 Deodorant
🚿 Shower gel

These everyday essentials can make a real difference, offering comfort, dignity and practical support to those facing difficult circumstances.

It’s hard to believe autumn has arrived already 🤯🍂. As communities across Brighton & Hove come together to celebrate harvest, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to support local people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and crisis.

Whether through your church, workplace, school, community group, or neighbourhood, organising a harvest collection for Off The Fence is a practical and meaningful way to make a difference right here in our city.

We absolutely love partnering with Cardinal Newman Catholic School and returning to their school community after the summer holidays. Building relationships, creating safe spaces for conversations, and supporting young people on their journeys is a privilege we never take for granted.

Whether it's a listening ear, a place to be heard, or support through life's challenges, we're proud to be alongside students as they learn, grow and thrive. 🧡💜

Yesterday, we enjoyed a fantastic team day together, celebrating the successes of the past year, looking ahead to the future, tackling a not-so-easy quiz, and getting surprisingly competitive over a game of Pictionary! 🎉

It was a wonderful reminder that behind every meal served, every person supported, and every life impacted is a team of dedicated people (some of whom are pictured below ⬇️) working together with a shared purpose.

This month, our Antifreeze Day Centre is currently most in need of:

👖 Joggers (S, M, L)
👟 Trainers/walking shoes (sizes 9-11)
👕 T-shirts (S, M)
👖 Jeans (sizes 30, 32, 34)
🧥 Hoodies (S, M, L)

A donation of good-quality clothing you no longer need could provide warmth, comfort and dignity to someone facing a difficult season. 💙
