The Fishing Club has recently installed a bench on Hemingford Meadow, opposite Battocks Island, in memory of Graham Adams—a dedicated angler and valued member of the Club’s committee. Graham’s father was also one of the Club’s founding members.

Members of the Fishing Club joined forces today with a team from the Environment Agency to clear w**d and jet the gravel along part of the Trout Stream. This process removes built-up silt and greatly improves spawning conditions for chub.

Many thanks to Alex and his Environment Agency team for providing the equipment, and to Alex Cossey for capturing drone footage and video of the work.

Today the Club released 3,000 chub into the river as part of the EA Fisheries Improvement Project. The fish were reared at the EA coarse fish hatchery in Calverton, near Nottingham.

The chub are around two years old and weigh between 3 and 5 ounces. Of the total, 500 were released into the Trout Stream, with the remaining 2,500 at Hemingford by the Bailey Bridge.

A big thank you to everyone at the EA for their continued support and help in improving our fishery.

The fishing club has recently acquired a Hayter Condor flail cutter to help improve access along the banks of the trout stream and the Hemingford backwater. While major improvements may not be visible until next season, progress is underway.
Today, the Environment Agency was installing new flow deflectors in the trout stream, in the area where chub spawn in spring. They also plan to conduct a fish survey next week.
