Gateway Wheelers

Gateway Wheelers is a cycling charity for anyone who needs the use of an accessible cycle due to having a disability.

This can include but not limited to: - learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, balance problems, eyesight problems, brain injuries, strokes, complex health needs etc. We have a wide range (50 +) of cycles available for all ages including go-karts, trikes, bucket seat bike, wheelchair bike, tandem, KMC trikes and an Ice Trike Adventure HD.

A huge THANK YOU to Ryan from Fagan Grange Roofing 🙌

We discovered damage to the roof of our HQ at the Tithe Barn on Monday and, of course, it’s been raining ever since! 🌧️

Just a few days later, Ryan is here today getting it repaired for us.

Ryan has very kindly donated his time and the slate tiles needed to carry out the repairs, which is an amazing gesture of support for Gateway Wheelers.

As the Tithe Barn is a listed historic building, looking after our home comes with its challenges, so having a local business step in and help us so quickly really does mean a lot.

Thank you, Ryan, for coming to our rescue and helping us keep the Tithe Barn safe and dry. 💙🚲

📣 GATEWAY WHEELERS MEMBERS & RIDERS – WE NEED YOU!🚲🎥

This Sunday 16th August, we’ve got something a little bit special happening at Gateway Wheelers!

🎥 Dan from Elm Photography is coming along at 2pm to capture some drone footage of our cycling session!

We’d LOVE to have as many of our members and riders as possible come along and help us show what Gateway Wheelers is all about. ❤️

💚 Our New Gateway Wheelers Leaflets Have Arrived! 🚲

Look what’s just arrived! 👀

We’re really pleased to finally have our brand-new Gateway Wheelers leaflets, helping people find out who we are, what we offer and how they can get involved.

A MASSIVE thank you to Ruth from Not A Design Agency who worked with us to create these accessible leaflets. 💚

It was really important to us that our leaflet wasn't just full of lots of complicated information. We wanted something that was clear, easy to read and easy for everyone to understand.

Ruth worked with us on the wording, layout and design to make sure the important information was presented in a clear and accessible way, without being overwhelming.

🚁 Can You Help Capture Drone Footage of Gateway Wheelers at Houghton Rectory Park? 💚

We want to showcase Houghton to the North East!

This September, Gateway Wheelers has been invited to present at the first North East Accessible Cycling Conference, where leaders from across the region—including Chris Boardman, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness, local councils and partner organisations—will be discussing the future of accessible cycling.

As part of our presentation, we're creating a short video to showcase Gateway Wheelers and our incredible home at Houghton Rectory Park.

We want to show why our location is one of the best places for accessible cycling in the North East and why the people of Houghton should be proud of what has been created here. Our traffic-free cycle track, beautiful surroundings and welcoming community have helped hundreds of disabled people, their families and local residents discover the joy, freedom and independence that cycling can bring.

The only thing missing is some amazing drone footage!

We're looking for someone with a drone who would be willing to donate around 30–60 minutes of their time to capture some stunning aerial footage of one of our sessions and the Houghton Rectory Park cycle track, helping us showcase Gateway Wheelers and Houghton to leaders from across the North East.

Our preferred filming time is Sunday 16th August, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm, during one of our regular Sunday cycling sessions.

Unfortunately, as a small charity, we don't have the budget to pay for professional filming, but we'd be incredibly grateful for your support. We'll happily credit you or your business in the finished video and wherever it's used in the future.
