Colonel Chris Hall MBE Royal Marines Assumes Command of HMS Raleigh
HMS Raleigh has formally welcomed Colonel Chris Hall MBE RM as its new Commanding Officer, marking a significant moment for the Royal Navy’s premier training establishment.
Born and raised in South London, Colonel Chris Hall joined the Royal Marines in 1997 and has built a distinguished career spanning operational service, command and leadership training.
His early roles included service with Comacchio Group Royal Marines, followed by deployment with 40 Commando on operations in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. Returning to Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRC), he trained Young Officers before moving into a series of headquarters and operational roles, including commanding Charlie Company, 40 Commando, on Operation Herrick 17.
Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, he served as Chief of Staff at 42 Commando before taking on senior training appointments, becoming the first Royal Marine to command the Royal Navy Leadership Academy and later commanding Support Wing at CTCRM.
His most recent role was Head People Support at HMS Temeraire, bringing extensive operational, leadership and training experience to his appointment at HMS Raleigh.
Now taking command at HMS Raleigh, Colonel Hall brings with him a wealth of operational, leadership and training experience, positioning him to lead the next generation of Royal Navy sailors and Royal Marines with distinction.
Speaking on his appointment, Colonel Hall said:
"It is a great privilege to take command of HMS Raleigh, an establishment at the heart of initial naval training. I look forward to working alongside a dedicated team to deliver the highest standards of training and support to our recruits as they begin their careers in the Royal Navy."
Colonel Hall lives in Devon with his wife and three children. Outside of his professional duties, he is an active cricket and rugby coach.
HMS Raleigh plays a critical role in preparing new recruits for service in the Royal Navy, and under Colonel Hall’s leadership, it will continue to uphold its reputation for excellence in training and development.
