I put local politics to one side yesterday and I opened my garden as part of Hornsea Open Gardens yesterday. All proceeds to Hornsea NCI

I wasn’t on site for all of the day as I was at the First Aid Centre, but arrived home just after 2pm and had the pleasure of meeting quite a few fellow garden enthusiasts. I was delighted by their comments, encouragement and ideas, particularly for the west side of the garden.

It was definitely worth entering the garden as a “work in progress”. Sometimes it’s easy to focus on what still needs doing rather than how far you’ve come, and yesterday reminded me of that.

When everyone returns next year, 🤞🤞🤞 the garden should finally be finished and ready to enjoy. My hope is that visitors will be able to relax with a cuppa, or perhaps a tipple, in one of the seating areas.

The garden I’m trying to create is all about slowing down, relaxing and spending time with friends.

Wish me luck! 🍀👍

Thought for the Day:

Where are the leaders we can trust?

Which party is going to get it right this time?

Is Reform the answer? Labour? Conservative? Greens? Someone else?

Perhaps we’re looking for change in the wrong place.

In my humble opinion, change starts much closer to home. It starts in our kitchens, our bathrooms, our wardrobes and even in our gardens.

Consumerism feeds the very systems many of us say we’re fed up with. The large corporations, advertisers and institutions that influence what we watch, what we read, what we buy and sometimes even what we think.

What if a silent army of consumers simply chose a different path?

What if we bought less and repaired more?

What if we supported local businesses instead of global giants whenever we could?

What if we grew a little food, reused what we already have, wasted less and valued quality over quantity?

It sounds simple, and I know it isn’t. Most of us are constrained by budgets, convenience and the realities of modern life.

But every pound we spend is a vote for the kind of world we want to live in.

We spend a lot of time looking for leaders to change the world. Perhaps we should spend a little more time recognising the power already sitting in our own homes.

Every purchase, every repair, every item reused, every local business supported, every unnecessary purchase resisted is a small act of independence.

Alone, they seem insignificant.

Together, they become a silent army.

Maybe the greatest power we have isn’t in the ballot box every few years, but in the choices we make every single day. 👍🤗

Vote with your spending power…

Wow.... I had the pleasure of meeting the team at SHoRES and given a tour of the center so can very much say it is an excellent community support facility, one that I would love to see here in Hornsea. Well done Jane, you not only deserve this award... you
earned it.👍

Jayne Nendick, the former CEO of SHoRes in Withernsea, has been made an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours list which has been released this evening.

Jayne is to receive the award in recognition for services to the community in Withernsea and South East Holderness.

For the past 20 years, SHoRes has offered vital support to the local community in the area.

Congratulations from all of us at the Gazette.

I agree with this… we should have a representative for coastal communities as part of the Coastal Changes Forum. At our last meeting we voiced our concerns that this important portfolio have been removed as a cabinet position 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

The Conservative-run council abolished the dedicated Coastal Cabinet Portfolio.

The Conservative MP says coastal communities matter.

Which is it?

Reform opposed weakening the coast's voice at County Hall because Holderness deserves proper representation.
