Meet Drai, our Men's Shed Coordinator! 👋

Drai has been part of Horbury District Men's Shed since December 2024, starting as a volunteer before becoming our Coordinator in February 2026.

Mental health has always been something Drai really cares about, and that's what first got him involved with the Shed.

After seeing the projects people were making, the friendships growing and the difference the Shed was making to people's lives, he wanted to get more involved.

These days, Drai helps organise our sessions, events and local partnerships, making sure the Shed keeps growing and welcoming more people 😊

This is "Northern Lights over Horbury", a beautiful acrylic painting by local artist Pete Vickers, complemented by a handcrafted oak frame created by one of our members at Horbury District Men's Shed!

It's a lovely example of what happens when local artists and craftspeople bring their skills together, with a little creativity and community spirit!

The finished piece is currently on display at The Workhouse café, at the top of Queen Street in Horbury.
Next time you're popping in for a coffee, take a moment to admire the artwork and the craftsmanship behind its frame.

We're celebrating our first anniversary at Horbury District Men's Shed! 🥳

What a year it's been, bringing people together to share skills, get creative, make new friends and enjoy a good cuppa along the way.

As we begin our second year, we're sharing a few updates to help keep the Shed as enjoyable and welcoming as ever. Here's what's new from 1st October:
- Sessions are now more flexible, come by anytime between 9:30am and 3:30pm
- £4 per visit, whether you stay for an hour or the whole day
- Tea and coffee are now included in the session fee
- Screws, glue, etc. are also included free of charge

It's important to us that financial worries don't stop people from joining us. If the cost is a concern, have a quiet chat with one of our friendly Shed leaders. We're always happy to help.

🏡 What a great morning! 🛠️

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Open Morning on Saturday!

It was brilliant to welcome new faces through the door, show people around our workshop, have a cuppa (or two!) and and hopefully give our community a better idea of what Horbury District Men's Shed is all about - making, mending and meeting.

A big thank you too to everyone involved in making Horbury Heritage Day happen, and to Horbury Library for the table at their Community Open Day. It was lovely to be part of such a great celebration of our town, its history and what it has to offer.

🏡 OPEN MORNING – SATURDAY 3RD OCTOBER 🛠️

This year, our Open Morning falls on Horbury Heritage Day, so we thought it was the perfect opportunity to throw open the doors and invite you in!

Our Men’s Shed is based in a historic, listed building right in the heart of Horbury — a building with its own story and a new chapter being written by the people who use it today.

Come along between 10:30am and 12:30pm to:

And you don't have to be a woodworker or DIY expert to be part of the Shed. Whether you enjoy making and mending, want to learn something new, or simply fancy some good company, everyone is welcome.

We’re all about making, mending and meeting — but just as importantly, having somewhere local to come, chat, share skills and spend time with others.
