Hopeman Skatepark Community run skate park located in Hopeman, Moray, Scotland The idea for this type of facility was formed during 2003 by Terry & Ann Brown.

One of the most successful projects completed in Hopeman in recent years has been the funding and building of the skate park on the north east corner of the village green. Terry and Ann noted that recreational facilities for the youths of the village was lacking and after discussing with some of them it was decided to form a committee to investigate what could be done. This committee consisted of Terry & Ann, Mark O’Shane, Fiona Tulloch, Linda Dixon and seven other youth members, and they decided that they would like a skate park. This was quite a daunting task, however, over a very short period of time the committee grew from strength to strength raising large sums of money, designing the layout, forming and developing rules for the club and taking responsibility for all aspects of what was to be done. Terry & Ann wanted to promote a greater understanding between youths and adults preventing this younger generation from being socially excluded. They also wanted to encourage youngsters to be physically active and live a better and healthier lifestyle and of course to be fully responsible for the running of the club, something which the committee and their successors have been very successful at. The park was built in five stages between 2004 and 2008 when it was officially opened and over the years there has been a huge increase in interest from within our community and from all over Scotland. There are now in excess of 1,300 members. Hopeman Community Association and all of the residents are very proud of what they have done. The skate park is still under the ownership of the community who keep the park maintained. All membership money and donations are used in the upkeep of the park.

Although we have not been seen too much at the park the past few weeks, we are still grafting in the background preparing to repair the rest of the big half pipe.

Another few weeks and hopefully we will be looking to open it up again!

BIG HALF UPDATE!!!

Well, started to wonder myself if it would ever go back together again 😂😂

First side is complete. Apart from a couple of beads of sealant which we ran out of.

A lot of learnings from this side of the ramp and now definitely know what’s coming with the other side!!

You won’t see us for a few weeks now as we will be prepping the new sections for the second side off site in a workshop rather than trying to work around the weather.

Please keep out as the sign says, although one side of it is fixed, the other side is unsafe.

Please keep passing on our go fund me. It costs a lot to do these repairs and even the consumables like screws/ wood/ sealant etc. mounts up to hundreds of pounds!!

Starting to take shape now with the rebuild.

A lot of structure replaced as much more rotten parts than expected.

Should be able to see this side being complete in the coming days.

For the other side we will be doing a lot of the preparation works off site in shelter due to the weather so it may not look like things are moving forwards but they are:)

This type of repair is not cheap even with businesses like the wood centre in Elgin giving us huge discounts.

Overall, this one side will cost around £4,500 in total by the time we will be finished.

It’s important that we keep sharing our gofundme page and keep the money coming in so we can continue such repair work.

Today’s sunny update is we made real good progress!!

Stripped the other 3 sections of rotten struts.

Installed 8 new sidewall sections.

First coat of paint on the sidewalls.

Great little helper today also.

Can really see progress now.

Rain forecast for a few days now so that will halt progress.
