The following is a Facebook post from Hook Parish Council. We thought we would share it with all the volunteers that support Hook Village Halls and get involved with Hook Books, Hook Community Lunch Club, Hook In Bloom, Half Term Fun, the volunteer directors that help to run the halls, and the many other events that happen in our village halls that are supported by Volunteers. Thank you everyone for all your support.

This week marks Volunteers' Week (1–7 June), a UK-wide celebration recognising the invaluable contributions made by volunteers in communities across the country.
First launched in 1984, Volunteers’ Week has been bringing people together for more than 40 years to thank current and former volunteers for their dedication, while inspiring others to get involved. The campaign highlights the positive impact volunteering has on communities and strengthens connections between national organisations and local grassroots groups.
🏘️Here in Hook, we are fortunate to have many groups and organisations run by volunteers who provide a wide range of services, activities, and support for local residents. Information about some of these organisations can be found in Hook Focus magazine and on the Hook Parish Council website.
🏆We are proud to celebrate and champion our volunteers each year through the Community Awards and Chair’s Awards, which are presented at the Annual Village Meeting. If you know someone who deserves recognition for their outstanding contribution to our community, please consider nominating them when nominations open next year.
👥To all our volunteers (including our Councillors, who are all volunteers) —past and present—thank you for everything you do to make Hook such a vibrant and supportive community 👏

HOOK’S ELIZABETH HALL GOES SOLAR

Faced with ever increasing energy costs, both standing charges and for energy consumption, as the fixed term electricity contract was coming to an end, the directors of Hook Village Halls decided to investigate the potential for electricity being generated through PV solar panels on the roof.

Given the roofscape of the Elizabeth Hall, structural engineers were instructed to report on its suitability. Given the all clear, 110 PV solar panels have recently been installed that will generate considerable electricity and reduce costs, helping to keep hire fees down. The payback period for the investment is 5 years and over the course of the next 20 years, it will pay for itself more than 5x over. A climate change grant of £5,000 was obtained from Hart District Council towards the considerable cost.

Sadly, Hook Community Centre is not suitable for the same treatment, due to the shape of the roofscape and the trees (which are covered by protection orders).

POPPIES AT THE ELIZABETH HALL

Hook's Poppies arrived back from RAF Odiham today after their drying out session at the base. Volunteers met up today at the Elizabeth Hall to sort them out, do minor repairs, and pack them up for storage before they are put up again in October.

Thank you RAF Odiham for looking after them and thank you volunteers for sorting and packing them up properly for storage.

It's Hook Books this afternoon at the Elizabeth Hall RG27 9HH from 2 - 4 pm.
If any parent would like these books please ask the ladies at the main hall door where we collect the Hook Books monthly donations.
All we ask for them is a small Hook Books donation.
The Formative Fun shop used to sell these books and they were extremely popular for helping children to learn to read far quicker than with other schemes. We heard of lots of success stories, including our own experience, and were privileged to meet Christopher Jolly who devised the scheme.
However, some teachers are not so keen on the scheme/concept for whatever reason, so probably best if you know the school teaches the phonics way, the Jolly learning way, or you are a home educator.
