🌟 The Heart of wHoo Cares
Every year, wHoo Cares is held together by something stronger than any programme, service, or schedule — the kindness of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. In 2025, we created a recognition scheme not just to hand out certificates, but to honour the love, time, and humanity our volunteers pour into our community.
When a volunteer stands up at an event to receive their award, you can see it — the pride, the surprise, the emotion rising in their chest. Some are choked up. Some can’t quite believe that something they do so quietly, so humbly, could mean so much.
But it does. It means everything.
Volunteering isn’t only about helping others. It’s about discovering parts of yourself you didn’t know were there — courage, patience, humour, resilience, tenderness. It’s about finding connection in unexpected places. It’s about giving someone a reason to smile on a day when they thought they had none.
šŸ† Our Volunteer Awards — and the Hearts Behind Them
⭐ Activity Ace
These volunteers are the spark that turns a simple room into a place of belonging. They set up tables, decorate halls, pour tea, call bingo numbers, serve food, greet partners with warmth, and fill every corner with laughter. They don’t just help run activities — they make people feel welcome, seen, and safe.
🚐 Ruler of the Road
Our drivers carry more than passengers. They carry stories, worries, hopes, and the quiet relief of someone who knows they’re not alone. Whether it’s medical transport, group outings, or wHoo Cares After Dark, they give people the freedom to stay connected to the world.
šŸŽŸļø First Class Chaperone
These volunteers turn every journey into a moment of companionship. They help people on and off the minibus, offer reassurance, share jokes, and make even the longest trips feel warm and safe. For many partners, these outings are the highlight of their week — and that’s because of the chaperones who make them feel cared for.
ā˜Žļø Champion of Chat
A weekly phone call may seem small — but for some, it is a lifeline. These volunteers talk, listen, laugh, and sometimes sit with someone’s silence. They bring comfort to those who can’t leave their homes, who feel anxious, or who simply need a friendly voice to remind them that the world hasn’t forgotten them.
šŸ” Befriending Boss
These volunteers step into people’s homes and become part of their lives. They share stories, memories, cups of tea, and sometimes tears. They witness the rawness of life — grief, loneliness, joy, resilience — and they meet it with compassion. For many partners, this is the only visit that isn’t rushed, clinical, or task‑focused. It is human to human. Heart to heart.
šŸ’ A Final Thank You
To every volunteer — whether you give an hour a week or many hours more — you change lives. You bring zest, laughter, warmth, and dignity into homes and hearts. You remind people that they matter. You make our community feel alive.
You are the reason wHoo Cares is not just a service, but a family.
Thank you — for your time, your kindness, your patience, your humour, your love. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for caring. Thank you for being the light in someone’s darkest week.

ā—ļøHELP SAVE WHOO CARES. HELP US BRIDGE THE GAPā—ļø

We need your help to raise vital funds to keep wHoo Cares here for those who need us most now, previously and to come in the future.

For 10 years, wHoo Cares has been on-hand helping people on the Hoo Peninsula. However, our core funding from Medway Council has been withdrawn due to financial cuts yet the demand for our support is only growing.

If you're able to support us through donating or fundraising, no matter how big or small, please click the link below. Your donation will help us keep going during this crucial period, covering essential running and transport costs so we can continue supporting those who rely on us every day. Every contribution makes a difference.

This week is Volunteer Week
Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate the wonderful people who generously give their time to support others. Through their dedication, they help our Partners stay active, get out of the house, build friendships, and remain connected to their communities.
Our volunteers are also an essential part of wHoo Cares, providing invaluable support by taking Partners to important hospital and medical appointments across the Peninsula, to Medway, and even further afield.
As Volunteer Coordinator, I have the privilege of knowing and working alongside each of them. Every day, I see the difference they make and the care, kindness, and commitment they bring to supporting our 500+ Partners.
Volunteers are the heart of wHoo Cares. They are more than volunteers—they are family. During Volunteer Week, we want to recognise, thank, and celebrate every one of them for the incredible contribution they make to the lives of so many.
Thank you to all our volunteers. We couldn't do it without you. ā¤ļø

I think this may just be our favourite trend yet, and we hope it's yours too! 🫶

More of the community getting behind the Save wHoo Cares - Bridge The Cap campaign to help us continue supporting those who really need us here in the peninsula. BUT we're still pretty far from our target so please help us by sharing our posts and fundraising link, and if you can, donating and supporting the campaign yourself no matter how big or small. Together, we know we can save wHoo Cares!

Happy šŸ·

A day to celebrate the rich history, craftsmanship, and simple joy of a great glass of wine—whether you prefer red, white, rosĆ©, or something sparkling.

Speaking of wine, there’s still time to join the Balfour Winery tour on the 4th of July! Don’t miss out on a wonderful day of great wine, beautiful surroundings, and even better company.
