Dancing World” Festival, June 3rd, Holywell
With the support of Flintshire City of Sanctuary and Holywell Town Council, Transition Holywell & District volunteer group are organising an international Dance Festival (Dancing World) for Saturday June 3rd to take place in the town centre. As well as providing a cheerful and colourful event, we want to help refugees now re-settled in Flintshire – even if only temporarily – feel “included”, and also to give them a chance to share some of their culture with us. This could include singing and/or instrumental music.
So far we have booked a performer of traditional Afghan dances, a group of Chinese dancers, a traditional Morris dancing troupe and a teacher of Latin American dance, but are obviously hoping to ensure there will be a good range of nationalities and dance styles represented. There will be shelter in case of rain.

WARM THIS WINTER RALLY- THIS WEEK!
Local people concerned about the cost-of-living crisis are invited to join a "Warm this Winter" rally in Holywell this Saturday, December 10th.

“We need to kick up a fuss so politicians get the message that this is an emergency - and current plans are not enough,” said a spokesperson for Transition Holywell & District. “Seven million households will be in fuel poverty this coming year as energy bills are predicted to rise by over £4,000 a year. We need immediate action for lower energy bills, warmer homes and a safer future – which translates into better emergency help for the most vulnerable, a proper programme to insulate/retrofit homes, and a switch from oil and gas to renewables. (Onshore wind is now 9 times cheaper than gas). We really need a Green New Deal to transform the whole unjust economic system which is geared to the "needs" of the rich 1%. Even the Confederation of British Industry has expressed concern that the government is going backwards with green growth. And in a rich country it's disgusting that so many people are living in damp homes and that a 2 yr old died because of it,” said the spokesperson. “ shameful too that that the number of people facing homelessness because of no-fault-evictions is up 76% this year.”

On Saturday supporters of this rally will meet at 11.30am by the Miracle Sculpture in the middle of Holywell High St and after some short speeches will walk with a massive “Warm this Winter” banner around the town centre, and give out flyers and information slips with a message for sending to MPs and MSs. Any readers who are able to join the rally would be most welcome. Wear warm colours if possible.

“Warm this Winter” is a campaign made up of some of the UK’s leading charities including Save the Children and Oxfam – working with community groups, MPs and others to make sure government acts effectively to lower energy bills now – and in the future.

I want to share with you a FREE, live Zoom council with the incredible Earth Elder and eco-activist Joanna Macy that may resonate with you and your fellow community members, on 31 May.
