An apology for not having updated you before on the proceeds from our 14th March Fundraising Quiz.

We are having a small issue with our bank - you might think that changing signatories on an account would be straightforward, but the bank happily removes the old ones immediately, then takes three weeks to add the new ones, leaving us unable to actually access the account in the meantime - it's not like it's 2026 and we have technology, is it?

Our gut feel is you have helped us to raise around £800, give or take, which is a record, but we'll need to verify this before we can give an exact figure.

Thanks for your support, and for bearing with us while we try to get this sorted out properly!

Well done to The Chalk Streamers, who pipped Pick'n'Mix by half a point to win last night's Holybourne Village Hall Spring Fundraising Quiz with 97 points. Insert Brain Here was a mere point behind them, and the remaining four teams were only separated by ten points.

Massive thanks to Triple fff Brewery for the donation of the real ale, White Hart Holybourne for the £50 voucher, Alton Camera Club for the loan of their projector, Tim Newman for the table quizzes, everyone who donated raffle prizes and helped organise the event, but - as ever - the main thanks go to all who came and supported us.

We now enter the usual post-quiz accounting phase and will post an update shortly to let you know how much you raised.

The trustees hope everyone had a great Christmas and would like to extend every good wish to all for 2026.

There are a couple of changes in the pipeline trustee-wise, and when these take effect, we will let you know more.

PAT Testing is booked to take place at The Village Hall on Saturday 17th January. As you are aware, all equipment used in Holybourne Village Hall must bear a current PAT Testing certificate - so please get in touch if you have any portable electric appliances that need to be tested. They will be tested along with the equipment belonging to the Village Hall, Holybourne Village Pre-School and Alton Camera Club. You will be charged the same rate per item as the three organisations listed above, which should be cheaper than an individual item.

Don't forget to save the date for our "Eve of the Ides of March" Spring Quiz Night on March 14th. Come along and enjoy a fun night of quizzing and refreshments all in aid of Village Hall funds! Maximum 8 contestants per team. Further details will be provided as they are confirmed, but provisional bookings are welcome!

We're excited to let you all know that we had three firm expressions of interest within a couple of hours of our quiz announcement over the weekend. Thanks to them for their support! We can reveal that the next quiz is being set by two brothers who were on the winning team last time - perhaps another team can triumph if not having to contend with a group containing the Dynorod (ahem!), we mean, Dastardly Duo!

Joking aside, the only money the Village Hall receives is from hires and fundraising (and - OK - the occasional grant, but these are few and far between, and the work involved in applying for them makes organising a quiz or other fundraising event look like a pleasant lazy stroll in a gorgeous park on a sunny afternoon) - so the support of all our quiz goers is very much appreciated!
