GreysElevenPlus has been set up to help older greyhounds that find themselves homeless. This may be because their owner has died or can no longer care for them, because of a family break-up, or because of a major change in home or work circumstances. I will take in greyhounds (and occasionally lurchers) that come to me via a rescue or charity. When I made the decision to create a sanctuary at my h
ome I had already lost my first love, Sparky, to Rainbow Bridge in November 2014. He was joined in May 2015 by Ben, a gentle small black greyhound that I had taken in via a lurcher rescue, straight from his "loving home" in July 2013. He had just turned 11, had a mouth full of rotten teeth and infected gums, and was very shut down. He passed away just 7 weeks short of his 13th birthday. My pets at the time of Ben's death were Snoopy and Perica. Snoopy is a brindle greyhound that I adopted via a rescue in July 2013, just two days before Ben's unplanned arrival! Snoopy was approaching his tenth birthday, and was looking for a new home because his owner's marriage had broken down and she was unable to take both her dogs to rented accommodation. Although I have fostered many dogs over the years since I adopted Sparky, I felt that he would benefit from a permanent resident as a companion for him. Perica is a galga that I brought over from Spain in March 2014 - she was ten and a half years old, had had many litters and was very timid. I fell in love with her face on the website of a small rescue run by a British couple in the south of Spain. She is even more beautiful in the fur - body and soul. I tell you this because Snoopy and Perica are my "pets", they were chosen and adopted. I now have another three greyhounds in the house, all over 11, that I have taken in because they have been brought to my attention as needing help. In order to offer sanctuary to another greyhound or two, I invite my family and friends to sponsor one of my existing GreysElevenPlus. Please see the photo albums for details.
