Our first litter pick - done!

On a lovely September Sunday morning, members of the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill descended on Brooklands Park, Rayleigh to do our first litter pick. Several bags of rubbish were collected, including several empty nitrous oxide canisters. For many of us, despite having lived in the area for many years, it was a discovery of a place that we had never been to before.

Honorary member Mark Francois comes to our meeting -

Honorary Member of our Club and local member of parliament, Rt Hon Mark Francois joined us at our meeting on 10th August.

After enjoying dinner, Mark spoke about the status of the Rochford District Council Local Plan and the construction of the new SEN school that is being built on the Wolsey Park estate in Rayleigh. The latter has been a particular campaign for Mark, to provide much needed places for SEN children in the area. Mark is hopeful that with the excellent progress being made on the construction, the school will open in the Spring of 2027 and will provide places for 150 children.

In response to questions, Mark also spoke about the proposed Local Government reorganisation plans and the status of major road projects in the area, such as the Fairglen Interchange.

A huge THANK YOU to the very generous people of Rayleigh, Hockley and Hullbridge who have helped us raise a magnificent £4,300 from our toy tombola at the Rayleigh and Hockley Christmas lights switch-ons and our Santa's Sleigh runs around the streets of the towns. This money will be used throughout 2026 to help local charities and good causes.
