The aim of Sustainable Hockerton community energy group is to make Hockerton a more sustainable village and reduce the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere. The group started meeting in 2006 and developed the following objectives:
• Reduce energy demand
• Generate electricity from renewable sources • Heat homes from renewable sources
• Reduce impact from travel
• Reduce the amount of wast

• Increase the amount of self-sufficiency in
water and water treatment
• Raise the awareness of climate change
issues through education

The first project was the installation of a 225kW community-owned wind turbine in 2009. Since then we have installed a further 50kW solar PV array and funded energy- and water-saving measures in two-thirds of Hockerton's homes.
