Hitchin Flower Club - NAFAS

Hitchin Flower Club - NAFAS Meetings held monthly from February to December, mostly the third Wednesday of the month at 7.30 pm Doors open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start.

Otherwise known as Hitchin Floral Art Club, we are affiliated to the Home Counties Area of NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies). The Hitchin Flower Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at Church House, Hitchin. Mostly we invite talented NAFAS Demonstrators who delight the audience by creating splendid floral displays. At the end of the demonstration the designs ar

e raffled to raise funds for the club. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served during a break, giving members and visitors the chance to socialise. Usually, twice a year, we hold workshop evenings, giving members the chance to learn new techniques and 'have a go' themselves. There are also occasional flower related trips and the opportunity to be involved in Flower Shows and Festivals. Costs: Members pay an annual subscription of £40 which includes entry to all the demonstrations and workshops throughout the year apart from the Christmas Demonstration, which is a separate ticketed event in November. Visitors are welcome at a cost of £8 per meeting. You don't need any previous knowledge, just an appreciation of flowers to enjoy the club. However, if you do have skills, the club offers you the chance to be involved in flower festivals and shows across all areas of NAFAS.

🌸 Cottage Garden Charm 🌸

Inspired by the charm of a cottage garden, Di Smith’s design for the 2025 Harrogate Spring Flower Show blends sustainable blooms and thoughtful colour choices to create a three-dimensional arrangement full of flow, depth, and discovery.
“I wanted the design to feel like peering down a garden path,” Di explains. Using grapevine shaped into four progressively larger circles, she built a geometric structure with a circular base and a pointed, open apex.

Sustainably sourced spring bulbs, dwarf daffodils (Narcissus ‘Tête-à-tête’), blue and white Muscari, and dark pink double tulips were arranged in a triadic colour scheme for maximum contrast and balance. Each bulb was nestled in damp moss and wired into place, integrating naturally while keeping the airy, three-dimensional form.
