🌺 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE 2026 POPPY APPEAL 🌺

Can you spare a few hours to support this year's Poppy Appeal?

My name is David Richards, and I am helping to organise volunteers for the Royal British Legion Hitchin Branch Poppy Appeal Collection throughout the Hitchin district.

The collection will take place from Saturday 24 October to Saturday 7 November 2026, ahead of the Remembrance Parade on Sunday 8 November 2026.

We will be collecting at a number of locations, including:

🚉 Hitchin Railway Station
🛍️ Hitchin Town Centre (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays)
🛒 Local supermarkets and other collection points

The more volunteers we have, the more locations we can cover and the more money we can raise in support of the Armed Forces community.

Would you be willing to help this year?

Whether you can give a couple of hours, a full day, or several shifts, your support would be greatly appreciated. Every hour makes a difference.

If you would like to volunteer, please comment below, send a message, or get in touch with the Hitchin Branch team.

✅ Please like, share, and spread the word to help us reach as many potential volunteers as possible.

Thank you for your continued support of the Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal.

Lest We Forget. 🌺

🔥 Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to be a firefighter?

Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service is inviting women from the local community to attend a Women's Try It Out Day at Hitchin Fire Station.

This informal and supportive session is designed to give you a hands-on insight into the physical elements of the role and the opportunity to ask questions about becoming a firefighter.

The fire service is committed to building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve, and we want to encourage more women to consider a career as an on-call or wholetime firefighter.

During the session you will have the chance to:

🔥 Try some of the physical activities used in firefighter training such as hose running and equipment carries

🔥 Take part in a short fitness challenge similar to the shuttle run (bleep test)

🔥 Meet serving female firefighters and learn about the role

🔥 Ask questions about recruitment, training and fitness preparation

This is not a test or assessment - it's simply an opportunity to experience parts of the job in a friendly and supportive environment.

Whether you are seriously considering applying or just curious about the role, we would love to welcome you.
