As Shaun's Space turns 1 we thought now would be a good time to rename the group to Dougie's Space..
Why? Because Shaun’s Space has grown and matured. What started as a request to provide food and drinks on a day other than Wednesday, has developed into a space where many people find fellowship and the Holy Spirit quietly ministers to their souls.
Why Dougie’s Space? Because for Dougie, Monday is the highlight of his week. He looks forward to coming and playing dominoes’ (6’s and 3’s is it). Dougie is in his 90’s, he’s living with dementia and all the struggles an aging body provides.
In December 2025 he attended his first ever Carol Service. We were privileged for that to be us at HBC. For Dougie and his wife Eleanor, Shaun’s Space has provided a life line. Shaun has moved on to live in Leicester, and we thank him for his initial push to get us moving with this project. We hope that he will join us in honouring Dougie with this change in name for the group.
Our God is a living God. He created us to be in relationship with Him. A growing, living relationship, that matures and deepens as it ages. A relationship that listens to the voice of the Holy Spirit and moves when prompted.
If you’ve never experienced Shaun’s Space, then maybe it’s time for you to come and meet Dougie, Eleanor, Alison, Mick, Elaine and all the others, at Dougie’s Space. See what God is doing in their lives. You’d be very welcome.

Did you know there are many different types of dementia?

Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies are four of the most common forms of dementia, and they can all affect people differently.

This is our guide to a few of the most common symptoms for each illness.

Dementia looks different for everyone, so a person’s symptoms may not look exactly as they are described here.

However by knowing the signs, we can make sure that we don’t brush off or ignore some of these lesser-known symptoms, to help everyone with dementia get a crucial early diagnosis.

Save this post for later, and if you’d like more info visit our website or give our Dementia Support Line a call on 0333 150 3456.
