📣 The next Festival of the Fort event will be an historical talk.

📅 Tuesday 30th June
⏰️. 7.45pm
🏢 The Maginess Room, Main Street, Royal Hillsborough (access via church green)
☕️. Light refreshments served afterwards

Dr Mattison will explore the pivotal parley between Lord Hillsborough, Secretary of State for the Colonies, and Benjamin Franklin, future signatory of the Declaration of Independence, held at Hillsborough Castle in 1771 🏛

It was a remarkable moment in history: the founding father of Hillsborough meeting a founding father of the United States 🇺🇸

Franklin’s push for greater colonial autonomy was firmly rejected, a moment that helped set the colonies on the path toward the Declaration of Independence in 1776 📜
