🐾 Meet Lady Marmalade 🐾
Marmalade is 2 years old, spayed, and a very special girl who sadly hasn't had the easiest start in life. Because of this, she is a nervous girl who needs a little time, patience and understanding to feel safe with people.
Once she knows you, though, you see the real Marmalade a happy, loving girl with so much love to give.
Marmalade would be best suited to an experienced, understanding home where someone is willing to continue working with her and help her build confidence.
A few important things her new family needs to know:
- Marmalade can live as an only dog and doesn't need another dog for company. She can potentially live with another dog, but there would need to be controlled introductions first. Any resident dog would need to be bigger than Marmalade, calm, and very good at reading doggy body language. She cannot live with small dogs, cats or small furries.
- Children need to be 13+ and any children in the home would need to be calm, sensible and experienced with dogs.
- Marmalade can resource guard toys and people, so this needs to be managed carefully. In her foster home she isn't allowed on the sofa, as this helps prevent her from guarding people or spaces.
- On walks, Marmalade can become very frustrated when she sees other dogs. This can look aggressive, but she does really well when her handler spots other dogs early, gives her space and stops her from becoming hyper focused on them. She is muzzle trained and currently wears a muzzle on walks, which actually helps reduce her anxiety and frustration.
- Marmalade also has separation anxiety. She has made fantastic progress in her foster home and her heavy duty crate has become her safe place. Her crate will need to remain an important part of her routine. When left loose, she can become very distressed and destructive.
Marmalade isn't going to be the right dog for everyone, and that's okay. She needs someone who understands that progress takes time and who is willing to work with her rather than expecting her to change overnight.
But if you are that person, you will get an incredibly loving, funny and happy girl who has so much to give.
Marmalade just needs someone to give her a chance.
