2025 adds another dark stripe to the climate stripes.
New data released today, show that 2025 was Earth’s third warmest year on record, continuing an unprecedented run of extreme global temperatures.
Created at the University of Reading, by Professor Ed Hawkins, the climate stripes show how average global temperatures have changed over time, with red stripes marking hotter than average years.
The latest update confirms that the last 11 years have been the warmest ever recorded.
Warmer temperatures bring real impacts, from more intense heatwaves to increased flooding risk.
As the University enters its second century, this work highlights our renewed commitment to climate science that informs understanding and supports action around the world.
