Urban Habitats Conservation Group Restoration of urban wild spaces for wildlife and people Wasteland or derelict sites are not considered to have wildlife potential.

Instead they are branded as eyesores that attract public abuse such as fly tipping, bonfires, motorbike scrambling and anti-social behaviour. Many Brownfield and derelict sites are actually very green, as so many species
have found refuge in urban areas in recent decades in response to intensified agriculture. The loss of these undervalued pieces of land can threaten the habitats of some very vul

nerable species and damage biodiversity. These sites are valuable to an urban area because they are readily accessible to many people and may be their main, or even sole opportunity to see wildlife.
