BEING Outdoors CIC

A beautiful blend of creativity, determination, skills development and collaboration has grown from the roots of connection as we approach half term.

Our small group Alternative Education programmes were a hive of creative independent woodcrafting.

We have recently added individual toolboxes with tools for independent use when our young people are ready to take that next step.

We are already starting to see growth in creativity, independence, resilience and focus as they navigate the beautiful mindful world of tool work.

So when one of our children moved on to sharing space with a new peer, all that was needed were eggs, milk and flour.

Instinct and self awareness led the way today as the group grew. A return to mixing ingredients to provide sensory feedback was the safe routine needed to ground and then feel safe enough for them to start their journey of sharing space with other peers.

A beautiful transition.

A wonderful weekend was had at the Forest School Association Conference.

New connections made with fellow Forest School Leaders and deep dives into play and how we can nurture it within our practice.

Oh yes and we got to throw conkers at each other all in the name of Violent Play!

Will be back next year for sure.

Morning from the FSA Conference. What a beautiful day to be hanging out with fellow Forest School Leaders!

What a beautifully self motivated, nature connecting start to our Alternative Education programmes at Shield Tree Wood this term.

Highlight so far is the offering of using our log splitter as a pancake batter bowl support while one our young people using their small fire set up to cook their own mini pancakes.

So you may have noticed we've been a bit quiet recently on the socials. We have enjoyed a bit of a break and rested the wood after an amazing year delivering our Alternative Outdoor Nature Education programmes, after school clubs and SEND holiday clubs.

We did welcome back children this week for our BEING Awesome SEND holiday club....it felt great to be back.

We have honoured the play of the children and let them deep dive into their interests without the interruptions of a photo opportunity, so here are a few that let the children play!

SUMMER HOLIDAY CLUB UPDATE...

This summer we are doing things slightly differently.

Sadly we were not able to secure funding for our Holiday club this summer.

So we have put together a 3 day programme to support all children using our usual therapeutic, trauma-informed low demand approach with 1:4 ratios that we know from feedback our families love. We have reduced the cost to the minimum but we must have all 16 places booked to run, but plenty of time to do so.

It does also mean we can take bookings from those living outside Derbyshire, and we have opened single day tickets too, which we hope will help too. Our team will welcome your young people and work closely to support them in every way.

Bookwhen link:
https://bookwhen.com/beingoutdoorscic

9.30am-3pm
Book all 3 days = £120
Tuesday 25th August = £40
Wednesday 26th August = £40
Thursday 27th August = £40

We look forward to continuing to provide support for our families just in a slightly different way this time.
