High Bickington Community Fund (HBCF) is run by a committee of volunteers who work together to organise community based events to raise funds for local groups and create focal events for the village. Originally set up to raise funds for the play area at Barton Meadow, residents and parents decided to make the fete a permanent fixture in the calendar, the Saturday of the August Bank holiday weekend
at High Bickington Playing Field from 2 - 5pm. The Christmas Fayre started in December 2006 after a few locals in the Old George decided we needed a Christmas Fayre. This was originally held on Poplar Terrace but growing success meant it was extended to the Church Hall, the Meeting Point (now the Shop!), the school playground and the Church. It is typically held on the last weekend in November from 4 - 7pm. As funds grew the Committee decided to share to groups needing help to buy equipment for their new or existing groups. Over the years we have donated over £16,000 to 25+ local groups. These include Quarry Wood, Libbaton Junior Section, the Badminton Club, the Allotments, HB Football Club, the Community Shop, the Parish Council, Rainbows and Brownies, Two Rivers Mission, the Methodist Chapel, Dodds Tucker Trust, the Community Mini Bus, the Youth Club, Barton Meadow Play area, HB Playing Field and others. We have a great Committee of volunteers but we could always do with more help, especially around our summer and Christmas events. If you could help with set up or take down of stalls, or could help to run a community stall that adds to the funds we share, please message the page and one of the Committee will be in touch.
