Do you have any eclipse photos from Hickling? If so, we'd love to see them and would be very grateful if you'd be happy to share them with us!
We have two wonderful images from Nether Broughton (thank you Ann!) which show the sun through leaves having the same effect as a pin-hole camera and reflect the eclipse (in reverse) on to a Belvoir Angels headstone.
I was very lucky to be on a west-facing cliff-top in Cornwall with an incredible view (some pics, below) - we would leave to see some Hickling images, too!

Can you help?
The family of Alan Wright (whose family came from Hickling) are trying to find Alan's aunt, Mary, and her children (his cousins). Brother and sister, George Wright and Mary Wright are listed on the 1939 Register in Hickling; Mary Wright married John Wright (coincidentally, they had the same surname) in 1950 - it is thought that John was a fireman in the Melton area. The family would very much like to make contact with Mary Wright or her children - we will, of course, treat this enquiry with all due discretion but would very much appreciate your help.
This enquiry has emerged following our research into the Wright family in Hickling:

This isn’t a history post but it is about our village - the old saying goes that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and this extraordinary village is very, very good at it. 1856: When Sunday fun split a Leicestershire town - moral outrage, political turmoil, the threat of public disorder and some dodgy legal manoeuvres - were all part of one Victorian afternoon in the park.
A hugely popular performance by a band on open ground to the south of Leicester city centre might seem innocent enough, but in 1856 it was part of a decades - some would say centuries - long religious battle.
But this performance was on a Sunday - and it came at a time when the argument over what should be allowed on the Christian sabbath had reached both the highest tiers of government and spilled onto the streets.
But would those calling for Sunday to remain a day of prayer win out against a movement which attracted tens of thousands?

A public music show - controversially held on a Sunday - led to a court case and political upheaval.
