=== Hexham Air Cadets Open Day ===

224 (Hexham) Air Cadets are having another intake of new cadets.

Come and see what we're about on Saturday 10th October 2026 from 10:00-12:00.

This will take place at Queen Elizabeth High School, in the large Sports Hall.

The two hours will form part of a demo of what we offer, as well as linking in with the National Cadet Week. We will also provide answers to any questions you might have.

After the day, if your child is interested, we will be running an intake on the Wednesday 14th at 1900-2130.

We parade twice a week on a Wednesday and Friday evening from 1900-2130, and to maximise the possibilities they will get out of cadets, we strongly encourage them to attend both nights.

Our only requirements for joining is to be 12 years or older and in Year 8 or above.

We do have a monthly subscription of £17, however this extremely cost effective (less than £1 per hour!) for what they can get out of the organisation.

We look forward to welcoming you on the day.

This weekend, staff from 224 (Hexham) Air Cadets supported the Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets Silver Duke of Edinburgh 3-day 2-night expedition in the Yorkshire Dales. 10 Air Cadets successfully passed this significant physical and mental challenge.

It was great to send 3 of our 224 (Hexham) Air Cadets off gliding last week, where they not only got to fly, but also acted as ground crew, handling the gliders and assisting with the launches.

Well done to 2 of our cadets from 224 (Hexham) Air Cadets who successfully completely their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Practice Expedition in the North Pennines National Landscape.

Congratulations to the 3 cadets from 224 (Hexham) Air Cadets and the 3 from our friends at 861 (Wideopen) Squadron ATC who successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition this weekend.

The route started in Hexham, heading north for 16km via Acomb and Chollerford, with full expedition packs, carrying everything they needed for a weekend outdoors.

We camped at Greencarts Farm Campsite & Bunkhouse in the wild lands untamed by the Romans, just north of Hadrian's wall. Run, would you believe it, by a former Hexham Air Cadet from 20 years ago!

A much warmer day 2, saw them walk 18km back via Newbrough and Bridge End, for a strong finish by all participants, in Tyne Green Country Park.

This is a weekend they'll never forget! 👏

The gorgeous sunny weather this weekend saw an intrepid group of cadets from 224 (Hexham) Air Cadets and 861 (Wideopen) Squadron ATC (and staff) out on a practice Bronze Duke of Edinburgh hike in the "wilderness" north of Prudhoe. (Yes, we were on the narrow but clear path, not just randomly walking through crops.)

Have you ever wanted to fly in a spitfire...

Want to fly in a Spitfire for its 90th anniversary? ✈️

This year marks 90 years since the first flight of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire.

To commemorate the anniversary, a two-seat Spitfire painted in the colours of the original prototype K5054 will undertake a tour of the UK in April, visiting locations across the UK.

Members of the public will have the chance to fly in the aircraft as it travels between airfields across the country.

Funds raised will support the Mark Long Trust and the RAF Benevolent Fund.
