Have you ever wanted to fly in a spitfire...

Want to fly in a Spitfire for its 90th anniversary? ✈️

This year marks 90 years since the first flight of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire.

To commemorate the anniversary, a two-seat Spitfire painted in the colours of the original prototype K5054 will undertake a tour of the UK in April, visiting locations across the UK.

Members of the public will have the chance to fly in the aircraft as it travels between airfields across the country.

Funds raised will support the Mark Long Trust and the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Congratulations to our newly promoted Acting Pilot Officer McNulty.

Having been a Civilian Instructor with 224 (Hexham) Air Cadets squadron for the last 3 years, after transfering from 2137 Lymm Sqn, RAF Air Cadets, due to moving north to Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets (DNW), Mr McNulty has now made the move into uniform.

This is the end of a year long 5 stage process, comprising:

- An interview with the Wing Development Officer.
- A weekend of training at our parent unit, RAF Boulmer.
- Passing a 3 person Wing Mock Board interview.
- Passing the actual Wing Board with the DNW Wing Commander.
- Passing the North Region - Royal Air Force Air Cadets Board with the North Region Group Captain, and 2 other Wing Commanders.

Next up, APO McNulty needs to pass an assessment by one of the Wing Drill Instructors, to confirm his drill is up to standard, and then pass a week long officer training course at RAF Cranwell, Headquarters of the RAF. After this, his rank will be made substantive as a Pilot Officer.

We will remember them. 🎖

It was an honour for 224 (Hexham) Squadron to proudly join the Remembrance Service in Hexham.
Together, we paused to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who gave so much so that others could live in freedom. Their actions remind us that courage is not only found on the battlefield, but also in the quiet strength of those who serve, support, and remember.
Remembrance is not just about looking back, it is about carrying forward the values of unity, service, and hope that those before us fought to protect.
We honour all who served, all who continue to serve, and all who keep their memory alive.
And today, on Armistice Day, we again remember the service and sacrifice made by those who gave their today for our tomorrow.

Their name liveth for evermore.

A huge thank you to the 224 (Hexham) Air Cadets for their outstanding efforts supporting the Poppy Appeal in Hexham today, and to the generous members of the public who kindly donated.
The cadets made us incredibly proud with their exemplary manners, smart appearance, and dedication throughout the day. Your support and respect truly embodied the spirit of remembrance.
We hope to see many of you tomorrow at the Hexham Remembrance Service as we continue to honour those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.
