ARE YOU AFFECTED BY FUTURE WORKFORCE CHANGES AT HERTS COUNTY COUNCIL?

Do you have any questions or concerns about the Future Workforce changes being brought in by Hertfordshire County Council? UNISON Hertfordshire is here to support you. Below is a short briefing.

• HCC is bringing in a major change to its organisational structure for employees on H and M grades introducing 9 job families, to replace departments, with 14 levels, to replace grades. This does not affect you if you work in a school. Negotiations for school workers are planned for next year.

• There is a new pay structure for Local Government Workers on NJC Contracts. For each level there will be 3 pay points except for levels 1 to 4 which will only have 2 pay points. If your job attracts a market supplement, additional pay points will be added to recognise this.

• All existing roles have been aligned with a level in a job family. Before the end of May; you will receive a letter to your home address setting out the level you have been assigned to within your job family and the impact this will have on your pay.

• HCC have organised online roadshows led by Sally Hopper, Director of Resources, to explain the changes and to answer questions. We would encourage you to attend these. There are also comprehensive briefings on the HCC intranet and you can e-mail the Future Workforce team on [email protected]

• If you still have questions after receiving your letter, or you are not able to attend a roadshow due to work commitments, UNISON is here to support you. You can ring us on 01992 556 260 or e-mail us on [email protected]

Dear UNISON Hertfordshire Member,

You will soon be receiving your ballot papers for the election of UNISON’s Local Government Service Group Executive. This is a really important election for the committee that makes key decisions about how the union campaigns for better pay and workplace conditions for our members working in local councils and the private sector.

Your branch nominated Neil Bland, Angie Deacon and Sue Hayden. They are all experienced activists with a proven track of record of successfully campaigning on issues that matter most to our members. They believe in supporting our members at every opportunity big or small, giving them a voice and campaigning hard on key issues. They understand the challenges UNISON members face and if elected will do everything they can to help.

We have all been hit hard by the cost of living crisis right now. Everything is so much more expensive and our wages are not keeping up. Neil, Angie and Sue are campaigning to secure a better future for all local government members in our region.

We were impressed with their ideas and commitments to:
• Campaign for fair funding for local government
• Keep pay, jobs and workplace conditions at the top of the agenda - always focussing on the issues that matter to you
• Work with employers to introduce the real living wage and increased mileage rates
• Campaign for decent pay in social care, including full sick pay
• Tackle discrimination experienced by women, Black, Disabled, LGBT+ and young workers

We know they will put members first.
