Why we need your help

My name is Archie and I am 6 years old from Southampton.

I was born at 26 weeks and spent my first 13 weeks in hospital. At 8 weeks old I became very poorly and almost died. I had to have major bowel surgery.

As I was growing I was missing my milestones. I didn’t sit up unaided until 13 months old and couldn’t walk until I was 2.

At 3 years old we had some news that turned our worlds upside down. I was diagnosed with brain damage which has given me asymmetrical diplegia, a type of cerebral palsy. It affects my balance, co-ordination and muscle stiffness (spasticity) which will eventually get worse as I grow.

I have painful Botox injections to relax my muscles to help me walk better. I also have to wear splints on my feet every day!

I love football but am un able to wear football boots. I struggle to run with flat feet, ride a bike or catch up with my friends and my legs can really hurt sometimes.

We have found out about SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy). This operation takes away any spasticity in the body permanently. Unfortunately, it is not available on the NHS, so we have to try and help Just4Children fund at least £60k.

This would really improve my quality of life and prevent me from needing crutches or a wheelchair later on in life.

I’m desperate to wear a pair of football boots and keep up with my friends. I just want the chance at a normal life without so many limitations.
