🌍💚 June is Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month 💚🌍

This month is an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, while helping to tackle prejudice, raise awareness and amplify voices across society.

By learning more about these communities and challenging stereotypes, we can all play a part in building more inclusive and understanding communities.

💙 Mental Health Support
If you or someone you know from the Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community is struggling, One Call Away provides a 24-hour confidential listening and support service.

No one should feel they have to face difficult times alone, and support is available whenever it's needed.

Men’s Health Week highlights the importance of mental wellbeing alongside physical health. Boys and men can face pressure to appear strong, cope alone or avoid talking about how they feel.

These pressures can make it harder to ask for help or recognise when support is needed. Encouraging open conversations about emotions, stress and mental health helps reduce stigma and supports healthier outcomes across the lifespan.

Mental health is part of health, and support matters just as much for boys, young men, dads and carers as it does for anyone else.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
This year, the theme is “building carer friendly communities.” https://www.carersweek.org/building-carer-friendly-communities/

Funded by Hertfordshire County Council, Carers in Hertfordshire are running a monthly support group for individuals who are supporting someone experiencing suicidal thoughts or who has previously attempted su***de. This group provides a safe and supportive space for carers to share experiences, gain insight, and feel less alone.

About the group

Open to anyone supporting a partner, family member, or friend
Monthly sessions alternating between:
In-person (Hemel Hempstead): Penultimate Thursday of the month, 10:30am – 12:00pm
Online: Second Tuesday of the month, 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Feedback from attendees highlights the importance of the group in providing a safe, understanding space and helping carers feel less isolated.

Volunteers give their time, care and emotional energy to support others. While this can feel meaningful, it can also be tiring, especially when supporting people alongside other responsibilities.

Volunteers’ Week is a reminder that those who help others also need space to look after their own mental wellbeing. Rest, boundaries and support help caring roles remain sustainable.

Recognising emotional effort matters as much as celebrating contribution.

Some young people cope with conflict or strong emotions by withdrawing rather than speaking up. Shutting down can feel safer than arguing, disagreeing or risking misunderstanding.

This is often a protective habit rather than a lack of care. Recognising it with compassion, rather than frustration, can help young people feel safer expressing themselves.

Supportive conversations can help build confidence in sharing feelings over time.

Carers, including young carers, often manage emotional responsibility alongside school, work and everyday life. This responsibility can include worry, tiredness and feeling unseen, even when things look manageable from the outside.

Carers Week is a reminder that caring affects emotional wellbeing as well as practical life. Support, understanding and space to talk can help carers feel valued and less alone.

No one should have to carry everything by themselves.
