Hi all,
Sadly the current editors of Our News Our Views have decided to leave for new opportunities after 10 years. Could this be an opportunity for you or people with a learning disability that you support or know?
Our News Our Views Opportunity
History
10 years ago, an enterprising group of people with a learning disability started Our News Our Views (ONOV) by pooling their budgets with the help of ECHO.
It is one of very few examples of people successfully doing this in Herefordshire. Our News Our Views editors work independently and pay ECHO to manage personal budgets for support worker payroll, supervision and venue costs. ECHO also offers great advice and moral support.
ONOV currently raise around £2-3,000 each year to print and distribute the newsletter and to pay for reporting and refreshments. We do this by applying for grants and doing sponsored events and by paid adverts.
105 editions have been printed since June 2014!
An opportunity for you?
The founding editors have decided to move on to other new activities and without new members we will wind up Our News Our Views.
According to our constitution we must leave our equipment and resources to a similar (charitable) purpose.
This leaves an opportunity for an organisation or group of people to carry on where ONOV has left off and build on our success with their own ideas. You may wish to continue as now complete with name and set up or work with a different model. You could start with the current name and mailing list and then re-launch the newsletter with a new name later.
We have laptops, tablets and other resources and a small amount of budget for printing. There are two directions Our News Our Views can go now, and we are asking if you would be interested in either?
Opportunity 1: ONOV continues as current model but with new editors adding their own unique flavour and ideas.
Could you be an editor? Can you gather a team and support worker e.g. perhaps several friendship groups of 2-3, to join as new editors. You will need at least 6 altogether to make it viable. (See additional information about ONOV).
Opportunity 2: ONOV winds up and resources are used for a similar purpose within an organisation.
Express interest if you are an organisation with similar (charitable) objects for ‘inheriting’ our remaining resources to create your own version of a newsletter for the learning disability community.
Decisions
The current founding editors will look at options that emerge and decide whether the project can be viable and owned by new editors or will be wound up and donated to an organisation that has a good fit with its purposes.

Merry Christmas from our news our views

Following the success of the Radio ECHO project, ECHO is launching a digital media project!
Are you interested in or would like to learn about:
• Sound recording, editing, creating music, and soundtracks
• Digital video recording and editing, learning camera, sound and editing techniques
• Photography, taking images and editing
• Creative writing/writing copy for publications
• Basics of broadcasting/podcasting
ECHO has secured an award from Kingspan Insulation GB Planet Passionate Community Fund to set up a pilot scheme that will give introduction to the techniques above and that, we hope, would lead to an ongoing Day Activity as part of ECHO’s menu of opportunities.
There will be very limited places on the pilot project, so if you would like to know more or be considered for a place, please contact the ECHO office on 01568 620307 as soon as possible and we will give you more information!
