Henley Choral Society first met in the music room of Henley Grammar School in 1973 and gave its first concert in the Spring of 1974. Since then we have sung music from a wide range of styles and periods: from Monteverdi, taking in the old favourites, Bach, Mozart, Schubert and Brahms, right through to a new piece commissioned especially for us by Ian D. We always employ professional soloists for our concerts and also a professional orchestra or organist, as appropriate. We usually sing three concerts a year, including one at Christmas featuring Henley Youth Choir, and occasionally join with other organisations for a big concert. There is no audition for membership as the size of the choir –over 100 – means that everyone who wants to join can find a niche to suit them. We are going from strength to strength under our dynamic professional director Peter Asprey and welcome new members. All you need is a love of singing: an ability to read music is useful. Rehearsals take place at 7.30 on Monday, currently at d:two near the centre of Henley - see map for location. Our Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle concert is tonight, 7.30pm, St Mary's Church, Henley. With a gorgeous line up of top flight soloists, two pianos and a harmonium and and 80 strong chorus we can't wait to bring Rossini's joyful melodies and choruses to life. Delighted to have Samuel Snowden singing baritone for us in our Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle this Saturday 13 June, St Mary's Church, Henley. Samuel graduated with Distinction from his music Masters from the Royal Northern College of Music and in 2024, as an Opera Park Young Artist, he performed the role of Doctor Bartolo in Rossini's The Barber of Seville - a perfect fit!
