Headway provides free, confidential professional counselling in a supportive environment either in a Headway centre or in the home for those with acquired brain injury and also for their families and carers.

- Living with Brain Injury Courses
This is a six or twelve week program run in Reading and Bracknell. The course aims to provide insight and information on clients’ conditions. Part of the course is for carers and families.

- Family and Carer Support
Headway provides support to families and carers as well as information and guidance through the minefield of legal and medical jargon and use of other available services.

- Raising Awareness
Headway works to raise awareness of brain injury and its effects. We are able to come along to meetings and events to talk about this and our work locally. If you would like us to come along to your meetings please contact us.

- Outreach and community support
There are many further clients who we maintain contact with and provide counselling, home and hospital visits and we also support their families and carers – these services are all provided free to the client and are open to anyone who contacts us.

We're putting together a detailed article on memory loss and we'd love your help.

Is there something you've always wondered about memory problems after brain injury? Maybe you're living with a brain injury yourself, supporting a family member or simply looking for reliable information.

This is your chance to ask and help us create a relevant resource for people living with brain injury and their loved ones. Remember that even the simplest question might seem obvious, but it may help others as well 💙

“My first message to someone newly diagnosed would be: ‘Don’t panic.’ There is help out there, but not everyone is aware of what support is available or where to find it.

My second message is: ‘You’ve got this.’ My first grandchild arrived 10 years after my diagnosis and procedure! Since then, there have been holidays, snorkelling adventures and, more recently, my daughter’s wedding.

Never give up!”

Andy shared these words with us as part of his journey after being diagnosed with a brain tumour and living with a brain injury.

For many, music is a more accessible language than speech.

That’s why we’re so excited to be partnering with Focusrite/Novation, who have generously donated professional equipment including a recording interface, drum and groove box, keyboard, microphone, headphones and Ableton Live software to help record, edit and mix music.

Thank you Focusrite, Novation and ADAM Audio 💙

A dedicated recording studio offers our clients a powerful new way to reconnect with identity, creativity and self-expression. It creates a safe space to explore sound, experiment and be curious.

The studio allows clients to turn thoughts, experiences, lyrics and rhythms into tangible tracks, providing a huge boost to confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Volunteers from Mastercard took time out of their busy corporate lives to join us for the day. It was a fantastic day, with everyone making pizzas in the morning to enjoy for lunch before taking part in team quizzes in the afternoon.

A big shout out to Paul Francis, Rene, Sabrina, Dave, Alan, Lillian, Gracie and German from Mastercard, who brought so much warmth, compassion and inclusivity to the clients they spent time with throughout the day.

The atmosphere was full of fun and laughter, and we all had a great time 💙

We'd also like to say a huge thank you to our regular volunteers Halima, Ella and Carole, who helped make the day run so smoothly.

And a special thank you to Mike and Claire from Saracens Head, who very kindly lent us their pizza oven for the day!
