Tonight Lakeside Beavers started their Disability Awareness journey- following a day of wet play at school!
They met and talked to a blind person to learn the issues they face - then in pairs, one blindfolded they guided each other around obstacles to understand the issues personally.
Then they tackled issues with hard of hearing, wearing ear defenders and following instructions.

Finally we played some games and with great pleasure awarded a Chief Scout Bronze - well done!

Tonight our cubs had wide games, worked on community services map, played a new game and some of the 1st Henfield Scout Group Sussex Downsman Hike received their medals and badges.

We posted yesterday about the participation of our 1st Henfield Scout Group teams in the Sussex Downsman Hike

We included pictures of the open teams from the back, but now with permission of all the parents we can now share some more great pictures of the teams - showing their smiles ,laughter and enthusiasm they all had all round the hike!

Again well done to all the volunteers from the Group and the Downman crew for making such a great day!

Today was a lovely day for 1st Henfield Scout Group.

We had four teams out on the Sussex Downsman Hike.

Team 1. for the first time ever Henfield Beavers had their own hike, waking from Southease/ Itford they walked to Bo Peep, climbing up Itford Hill and Firle Beacon on the way . Well done to those team members and their accompanying adults and support team . All completed!

Team 2. a combined 1907 and 2007 Troops scout team of mainly recent arrivals in Scouts who went and completed the 15 mile Open route. All completed !

Team 3. A 1st Henfield Arun Cub Pack team of 8.9 and 10’year old of also did the 15 miler from Plumpton the Firle and did it with ease and smiles the whole way. All completed !

Team 4. another Cub team from 1st Henfield Adur Cub Pack of young cubs , including our first two former Squirrels smashed the 11 miles Plumpton to Itford. All completed!

In addition there was a further team of Explorers from our linked Spitfire Explorers who are still out competing in the E class!

Well done to everyone. .

A massive thank you to the young people who did the route with smiles and good humour, walked well and represented the Group well. But also none of this could happen without the adults that supported, both those that walked and provided the support crew and also the parents that helped with the transport back!

Finally thank you to all the Downsman volunteers for manning the checkpoints and providing the central support

❤️well done to our 1st Henfield Beavers!

🦫🎉 HISTORY MADE AT BO PEEP! 🎉🦫
For the first time since the Downsman began in 1967, a team of Beavers has crossed the finish line! 🙌
Our brilliant young hikers, took on the South Downs Way alongside their grown-up hiking buddies today. And how did they finish? By doing sausage rolls all the way down the hill to Bo Peep, of course! 🌭😂
They showed everyone that you're never too small for a big adventure. ⛰️
Thank you to parents, leaders and volunteers who helped make the very first Beaver Route happen. And to our Beavers: you've set the bar for every Beaver team that follows. We hope this is the first of many! 💜
Well done, everyone. We're so proud of you! 🌟

International badge for 1st Henfield Scout Group lakeside Beavers tonight -
Games , food, flags and learning about international Scouts - we also said goodbye to one of our Beavers who has moved Cubs!

We also with great pleasure invested 2 new beavers leaders who have joined the Beaver leaders team - welcome and thank you !

🩺🐿️ Tonight our Squirrels Kings became MINI MEDICS! 🐿️🩺

This evening the Squirrels got hands-on with some important first aid skills!

They learnt how to call for an ambulance, acted out different scenarios to see how they would respond, and learnt how to apply pressure to a wound when someone is bleeding.

It was fantastic to see them getting involved, thinking about what they would do in an emergency and building their confidence with some really important life skills.

We finished the evening with a story to wind down after all their mini medic adventures!

Well done, Squirrels! 🐿️⭐️ You were all brilliant tonight! 👏🏼

This afternoon 1st Henfield Scout Group held its 119th Annual General Meeting at Hillside.

Expertly chaired by our interim chairman John, it included an excellent run down of our accounts and costs by our Group Treasurer Dawn as well as a brilliant presentation of the role of Trustee by our new Trustees Heidi, as we wish to welcome new additional volunteers to these key roles.

The meeting included an awards presentation of annual and individual awards to young people as well as a pictorial review of the year of just some of activities that all sections have undertaken!.

We were very honoured to have not only representation from our district, Adur Valley Scouts in the form of our District Lead Volunteer, Greg, but also our West Sussex Scouts County Lead Volunteer Joe and Deputy County Lead Volunteer Julia also attended and gave a great motivating speech at the end . Thank you to them for giving up your time to attend.

Finally and most importantly thank you to everyone - Leaders, Trustees, supporters, parents and most importantly our young people that attended and congratulations to all our award recipients 👏
