As we enjoy the summer break we are starting to plan for another for another exciting new year of Scouting activities across all our sections!
🐿️🦫🐺👨‍🌾 🧭

Our great leaders are already looking ahead and planning a fantastic programme for when 1st Henfield Scout Group returns in September! A year that will see the 120th! anniversary of Scouting in the UK and also for 1st Henfield Scout Group🎂

We can't wait to get things moving again and give our young people plenty of opportunities to learn, explore, have fun and make memories.👍

As we prepare for the new term, we're also looking for new volunteers to join our team. Whether you've been involved in Scouting before, a parent that wants to give back and support their children (and your) adventures or you're completely new to it, we'd love to hear from you!🙏

You don't need to be an expert — just someone who wants to make a difference, have some fun and help to give or support our young people to have great experiences.

It’s not all knots and maps, or even dealing with little and not so little people - we are also looking for trustees and administrators to support the Group in key roles, including with finance, administration and governance. . If you have a skills in that area we would love to hear from you. 💰📈🧾🖇️💻📋

We will of course offer support and training.📖

Always a great place for a visit and a great memorial to Scouting.

in 1907, 20 boys gathered for an experimental Scout camp on Brownsea Island, near Poole in Dorset.

By bringing young people from different backgrounds together, founder of the Scouting movement Lord Robert Baden-Powell hoped to bridge gaps in society and provide opportunities to learn new skills. It was a radical idea at the time, but within two years there were 100,000 Scouts in the UK alone.

The National Memorial to Scouting remembers the service given by Scouts across communities, including in the Armed Forces, and recognises the difference that Scouting has made.

The memorial features three young Scouts, carved from solid stone, circling a roaring campfire that flickers and moves. A lone neckerchief next to them represents all the missing Scouts.

The scene is one of peace and warmth that captures the essence of Scouting’s spirit of global friendship and adventure. Visiting Scout groups will often add their group’s necker to the collection around the neck of a sculpture of a Scout leader.

Viewed from above, the memorial forms the shape of the ‘Gone Home’ trail symbol which appears on Lord Baden-Powell's gravestone.

It's our birthday, Scouts! 🎉 🥳 ✨

119 years since the very first experimental Scout camp pitched up on Brownsea Island, Dorset.

We’re so proud of everything our volunteers have done since then to give young people a place to belong. Thank you to you all! 🙌

We have reached the end of the 2025/2026 Scouting year at 1st Henfield Scout Group.

As GSL I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone that has made it another amazing year.

From Squirrels growing with a new section and new leaders , new leaders too in Beavers and another growing section- as well as amazing Cub, scout and explorer camps and trips! We have celebrated 5 years of Squirrel Scouts , 40 years of Beaver Scouts and an amazing 110 of Cubs Scouts! And Next year it’s 120 years of Scouting and also 120 of Henfield as a Scout Group!

So to all that give up their time as Section Leaders, Section Team Members, Helpers, Trustees or Activity Support members a massive Thank you!

Same message to all our incredible Squirrels, Beavers , Cubs , Scouts, Explorers and Young Leaders thank you for joining in with the adventure, putting the effort in to achieve those badges and awards and to grow as Young People and making 1st Henfield a

And to all our locations where we run, Henfield Guide Hut, Jolesfield School and of course Hillside Scout Camp thank you for continuing to have us and support us on our activities and adventures. Thank you to those that support us, West Sussex Scouts, Adur Valley Scouts and organisations in Henfield such as BP Guild Henfield, Henfield Fire Station Supeta Community Yacht, Adur outdoor activities centre (AOAC) and all the other organisations that contribute to the Groups success in delivering the adventure!

Have a great summer, enjoy the break and let’s make out 120th year something really special and please if you don’t already please consider volunteering next year as I think it’s going to be a special year!

2026 Summer Scout camp has come to a close.
This year the 1st Henfield Scouts went to Beacon Hill campsite and had great fun on activities and bonding as Group troops.

Hikes, shooting , climbing alongside more traditional scouting activities gave them all some of those essential skills for life.

It would be remiss of me not to thank all the leaders that volunteered at and organised camp and gave up their time so the Scouts can have these experiences- without them none of this would happen.

As the 1st Henfield troops grow, please think about volunteering in the sections and helping all the Scouts have these experiences , and especially if one of them is yours the more that volunteer the more the adventures!

This Camp concludes the 1st Henfield Scouting year 2025/ 2026 year so a massive thank you to everyone and enjoy the summer break and whatever personal adventures await!

We restart as always with helping at the Henfield Senior citizens meal on the first Sunday in September- look out for details nearer the time when we have them!

We’re delighted to announce Satvika Mishra as our new UK Youth Lead from September 2026.

Satvika brings strong experience of Scouts, youth leadership and governance to her new role. She also has a clear commitment to making sure young people can shape their time in the movement.

Satvika will take over from Ayesha Karim who has given outstanding service as UK Youth Lead since 2022.
