Last night our scouts were back to basics with adventure activities including whittling and axe throwing.

They had a great evening!

Thanks as ever to the leaders and helpers that supported the Scouts, the more help we get especially from current parents the more we can offer.

A special moment for 1st Henfield’s second Squirrel Drey as I as GSL had the pleasure to invest two of its leaders, give them their uniforms and reveal the name tapes and new flag to Kings Squirrels Drey ready for the Squirrels investiture soon!

Everyone in the Group is an unpaid volunteer and without our brilliant volunteers we could not deliver these amazing programmes to our young people. So please consider volunteering is this or any of our sections and help deliver adventure and skills that will benefit your children now and for years to come.

Tonight 1st Henfield Beavers at their Hillside home working in teams designed, built and tested obstacle courses, did archery and played wide games in the wood testing their observation and teamwork skills.

Today, squirrel kings learnt about how seeds grow. We played games which included all what a seed needs to help it grow....

Today, squirrel kings learnt about how seeds grow. We played games which included all what a seed needs to help it grow. We then used celery in some food colouring so the children could see how the celery evaporates water which then taught them the importance of seeds and flowers needing water. We then finished with planting our own sunflower seeds. The children can’t wait to see how quickly they grow. Well done squirrels 🐿️

On this day from the archives - 1st Henfield Cub Camp at Broadstone Warren in 2017

Our first Cub camp at Broadstone Warren in a long time, and the Cubs enjoyed a 3 day 2 night camp in which they all did Crate stacking, low ropes, climbing, abseiling, zip wire ,swimming, camp gadgets and a hike!
The result was a great camp, great cubs, great leaders and very sleepy cubs that went home with great memories

At the time 1st Henfield only had the one Cub Pack - Arun, but we also had 1st Partridge Green with us on what turned out to be their last ever camp before disbanding. However the majority joined 1st Henfield Scout Group and formed the nucleus of the then reformed 1st Henfield Adur Cub Pack, which ironically now runs again from Partridge Green.

This week our current cubs are looking forward to adventures at their summer camp.

Happy Sussex Day!

The reason why it’s Sussex Day is :
“Sussex Day is held annually on 16 June, the feast day of St Richard, the 13th century Bishop of Chichester whose shrine at the city's cathedral once drew pilgrims in numbers rivalling those who travelled to Canterbury.”

A really fun afternoon at Trenchmore Farm for our 1st Henfield Tanyard Squirrel Drey - meeting the cows and learning all about their lives on the farm.

We also got to have a look at a super cool tree that had been struck by lightning!

We're incredibly grateful to the farmers that gave up their time to show us around 🫶

Also a massive thank you to our amazing squirrel leaders for arranging such fun trips and for giving the squirrels such amazing opportunities. 🙏
We would love to get a few more Squirrels in the dreys but need more adults helping in to do that - so if you can commit to being part of our amazing volunteer squirrel teams, your child will get a place once your onboarding is completed.
