Welcome to CAI page. We are the UK’s representative trade association for businesses across the whole spectrum of delivering video, audio and data around the home and commercial properties. Formed in 1978 CAI represents installers, manufacturers, distributors & broadcast operators engaged in networking signals to all types of properties. We are different from most trade bodies in that applicants for membership have to undergo an assessment to check they can achieve compliance to the CAI’s codes of practice & conduct which are recognised by broadcasters and government as best practice. By choosing a CAI member to advise or complete the work you require, you are assured of competence & compliance.

The CAI Foundation Diploma in Signal Reception qualifies you for an ECS Skills Card, helping you demonstrate your skills and qualifications within the industry.

There are two routes available, depending on your level of experience:

Route 1: For those with more than two years of experience.

Route 2: For those with two years of experience or less.

Both routes include essential training and assessment requirements, with additional courses required depending on the route you take.

Develop your technical knowledge and strengthen your understanding of the essential principles required when working in the AV and signal reception industry.

Our Essential Principles for Installers course takes place on 27–28 October 2026 at CAI Academy in Hemel Hempstead.

This 2-day course is ideal for those entering the industry as well as professional installers, designers, engineers, consultants and others working with TV, satellite, data and AV systems.

Topics include:
- Units of measurement
- Principles of electricity including Ohms and Watts Laws
- Basic electrical and electronic parameters and symbols
- Decibels for signal ratios and measurement
- Earthing overview, types and requirements

The course is a City & Guilds Accredited Programme and is available to both CAI members and non-members. CAI members receive discounted training rates when signed in to the website.

Important Update for CAI Members in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland

Saorview has notified the CAI of the planned cessation of the Saorsat satellite service in early 2028.

The satellite currently used to provide Saorsat is expected to reach the end of its operational life in 2028 and will not be replaced. As a result, Saorsat will need to be discontinued.

Saorview recommends that no further Saorsat installations are carried out from now on.

Existing Saorsat users will be informed through the Saorsat and Saorview websites, with on-screen messages also planned as the closure approaches.
RTÉ, TG4 and Oireachtas TV will continue to be available through Saorview and other broadcast TV platforms, as well as online.

CAI members working with customers who currently rely on Saorsat should take note of this planned change.
