Gadebridge House, home to Astley Cooper : surgeon to the rich and famous.
The House and Owner:
The house was built for the surgeon Sir Astley Paston Cooper, who moved there in 1811, and the Cooper family remained at the estate until 1904.
Later Uses:
After the Cooper family left, the house was sold and became Gadebridge Park School in 1914, and an army camp was also set up on the grounds in 1915.
Demolition and Current Site:
The school moved out in 1963, and the house was demolished as part of the New Town development. A Kodak Marketing Education Centre was built on the site, which was later demolished in 1995 for the current housing development at Sovereign Heights.
