It is with great sadness that the Village Hall Committee announce the passing of Doug Polman. A long-time resident of Carleen, and a staunch and unwavering supporter of the Hall, he will be known to so many of you. As the driving force behind the highly successful Carleen Village Pantomime, he drew enthusiastic comedic performances from many of his fellow residents. He was involved in so many events over the years, and this page is a testament to his dedication to the success of our fantastic local asset. In light of Doug’s contributions, the Village Hall Committee has decided to memorialise this page in his honour, and it will close at the end of November. From then on you will be able to find details of events and other matters on the Carleen Village Hall Community page.

This message from Doug’s son, Darren, gives details of how you can join his family in celebrating his life.

‘Hello Folks,

Thank you for all the lovely messages we have received.

The celebration of Douglas Polman’s life will be held at Penmount Crematorium Truro on Thursday the 30th of October .

Dad has asked that absolutely no black is worn please as he wants us to celebrate and not mourn. The brighter and bolder the colours the better!

We kindly ask for no flowers or cards and in place of these a donation can be made either via the Just Giving link or alternatively, there will be a donation box for cash donations on the day.

Following the service, we will be raising a few pints of real ale, sharing stories and celebrating his life. We will share details of where this will be soon but wanted to share the date for those travelling.

Please feel free to share with anyone who knew dad and would like to come along and help us celebrate.’

If you are unable to attend in person, a video link will be available, as below.

A great big thank you to all who attended the annual Tea Treat at the village hall last Saturday. hope you all had a great time and we hope to see as many as possible next year.

Thanks also to all those that planned and volunteered to help with the Tea treat, especially those who made the food, led the procession and provided the entertainment on Trew Green.

We hope you all enjoyed the Ceilidh and had a wonderful time. The lady who took a tumble did not damage anything and had bruises but is recovering.

See you all next year.

A little late notice but there is a FREE Summer Concert at the hall on Saturday 26th July, this Saturday coming.

Four Lanes Male Choir
Formed in the Autumn 1944: Four Lanes Male (Glee) with 16 members
3rd October 1944: The choir’s first concert – at the Wayside Forest Sunday Schoolroom.

Four Lanes Male Voice Choir has competed in many local, national and international competitions – too many to list here – and have certainly had its share of success. Again, these can be found in the book on its history.

Through it’s long history, the Choir has supported many local and national charities and continues to do so.

The Choir’s motto is Sing we for pleasure for one and all.

There are not just one acts but two, with a support group the Saxy Maids.

Cornwall’s all female saxophone quartet - Saxy Maids, was established in 2003 and has enjoyed playing across many venues for many occasions over the years.

Their repertoire consists of a wide range of genres from jazz to classical and pop to show tunes.

They have a huge catalogue of pieces and often write our own arrangements for events or requests for special occasions.
