🎉⚜️ 117 YEARS OF 1ST HELMSLEY SCOUT GROUP! ⚜️🎉

Today, 17 August 2026, we’re celebrating an incredible 117 years of Scouting in Helmsley! ❤️💛

Since 1909, generations of young people have walked through our doors, pulled on a necker, learned new skills, faced challenges, made lifelong friendships and created memories that last a lifetime.

The uniforms have changed, the neckers have changed, and even Howl Wood has changed quite a bit! 😍 But the heart of 1st Helmsley remains the same — adventure, friendship, community and giving young people Skills for Life.

And none of it would have been possible without the hundreds of volunteers, families, supporters and members of our community who have given their time and supported the Group over the last 117 years. Thank you. ❤️

Here’s to our past, our present and the adventures still to come…

🪓 Tomahawk Training! ⚜️

Today we helped a few fellow Scout leaders gain the skills and experience needed to safely run tomahawk sessions for their own groups and sections. 🪓🎯

It’s always great to share skills, swap ideas and meet leaders from other groups too! 💚

Another great day of Skills for Life – not just for our young people! ⚜️

The government has issued a temporary ban on the sale of disposable barbeques.
It has been confirmed that these items “pose a significant risk to the public” due to the heatwave conditions.

If you still have one, please do not use them.

🏕️ Poacher 2026 – We did it! 💚⚜️

The tents are down, the washing machines are working overtime 😬 and after an incredible week, Poacher 2026 is over!

What an adventure! 🌍

Our Scouts and Explorers have climbed, caved, shot, fished, flown, danced, got soaked, tried new things, faced challenges and made friendships with Scouts and Guides from across the UK and around the world.

They stepped outside their comfort zones, supported each other and threw themselves into everything Poacher had to offer – Scouting at its very best. 💚⚜️

A huge thank you to everyone who made Poacher International Jamboree 2026 possible, and especially to our friends at 1st Malton for inviting us along, showing us the ropes and sharing the adventure with us.

Tired? Definitely.
Proud? Absolutely.
Memories made? A lifetime’s worth. 🥰
