Part of Scouting is all about creating opportunities, building confidence, and giving young people the chance to try things they might not normally experience.

Today, we had the pleasure of running an archery session at St Benedict's R.C. Primary School. Despite the windy conditions, the children showed great enthusiasm, determination, and willingness to step out of their comfort zones.

The wind may have tested their aim, but it certainly didn’t stop them from trying something new and having fun along the way. Even the teachers couldn’t resist having a go and joining in the fun! 🏹🌬️

A fantastic day all round, with plenty of smiles, new experiences, and a few hidden archery talents discovered along the way.

📸 Beavers Become Photographers! 🌟

Tonight, our Beavers stepped into the world of photography and learned how to use a digital camera. They discovered how to focus their shots, explored different camera settings, and practised taking both landscape and portrait photographs.

The session gave them the opportunity to develop new skills, boost their creativity, and build confidence behind the camera. From capturing nature to photographing their friends, the Beavers showed great enthusiasm and quickly picked up the basics of photography.

It was fantastic to see their imagination shine through as they experimented with different angles, compositions, and subjects. There are definitely some talented young photographers in the making!

Last night our Scouts enjoyed a fantastic evening at Helmsley Bowling Club.

With the weather on their side, they had the chance to try their hand at lawn bowls, and it was brilliant to see so much enthusiasm and natural talent on display. We might well have a few future champions in the section!

A big thank you to Helmsley Bowling Club for their warm welcome and for giving us such an enjoyable introduction to the sport. We’re hoping to return next year with a team ready to compete!

Tonight, our Cubs put their compass and navigation skills to the test as they practised taking bearings around the beautiful grounds of Duncombe Park. 🧭

The Cubs quickly got the hang of reading bearings and navigating accurately, showing fantastic teamwork, confidence, and outdoor skills throughout the evening. It was great to see everyone making such impressive progress and having fun while learning an important scouting skill.

A huge thank you to Duncombe Park for allowing us to use their stunning grounds and providing the perfect setting for our navigation challenge.

We are very proud of each and every swimmer tonight. Whether you were racing, taking on a new challenge, or simply giving it your best effort, you should be proud of what you achieved.

We’re incredibly proud of all our Explorers.

Each week they take ownership of their programme, plan and run their own sessions, think creatively, and share their knowledge with others.

This week was no different, as one of our Explorers led a session towards the new Naturalist Badge. Despite the rain forcing a last-minute move indoors, they adapted brilliantly and delivered an engaging and informative session for the rest of the Unit.

A great example of leadership, resilience and teamwork in action!

This week our Beavers worked towards their Builders Badge using LEGO®!

They designed their own creations, worked together as a team, and built their LEGO models. Once finished, they shared their designs with the Colony, explaining what they had built and how they created it.

A great evening of creativity, teamwork, communication and problem-solving!

This week our Cubs developed their map reading and navigation skills.

They learned about map symbols and keys, discussed essential hiking kit, and built their own contour-line cardboard hills to understand how landscapes are shown on maps.

Our older Cubs also learned how to orientate a compass before helping teach the rest of the Pack.
