Dear All,

After the unfortunate drownings in the news lately, Ramsbottom Anglers Juniors will be doing a 24hr fishathon on 20th June 2026 to raise funds towards getting a defibrillator for outside the club house at Clarence Park Lido Bury.
This will be for in the event that if any of the local community or public around the Lido should ever be in need of this life saving piece of equipment.
Any and all donations big or small will be greatly appreciated.

if you would like to donate to it, please go to the following link

One of the members of Ramsbottom Angling Association, Ian Symes, has finally carried out his dream and has written a book called 'The Adolescent Anglers and Beyond'.
The book spans 70 years of fishing, starting on the Thames when Ian was 10 years old.
It covers meeting his fishing mates who he has still got after 68 years.
His mates now live in Australia, having emigrated in the 60's as £10 poms.
Ian has visited Australia many times, fishing on beaches and rivers there.
For many years Ian fished on the River Ribble for Barbel and Chub.
Nowadays he can sometimes be seen fishing on the Clarence Lido with his grandson James.

If you would like a quick look at the book, you who are able can visit the Lido clubhouse Thursday morning, 10 - 12am, where you can browse the book.
Ian has been kindly enough to leave a copy.

For those who are interested in buying it. It is available on the Amazon website:

The Adolescent Anglers and Beyond: Tales from a long and happy life by the waterside.

Spanning seven decades, The Adolescent Anglers is a story not of record fish but of the friendships that outlast them. Ian, Harry, and Phil first meet as boys on the Thames in the 1950s—three lads from three different backgrounds, bound by fishing and a shared instinct for adventure. From pushbik....

Not many of us, but thank you Andrew, Phil and Martin for joining me yesterday morning at scholes to get some of the work planned completed.
We cleared and made safe the area cormar had asked us to help with.
We raked around the water to identify what w**d was present.
Blue dye was added to the water.. it's now looking a little different.
Combination lock now fitted and active on bottom gates.
After discussion with cormar, only people with scholes membership or approved access via ourselves/cormar will get access code

The planned security cameras weren't put into place as it wasn't practicable to do it. This will be done next week.

Thanks again Andrew, Phil and Martin for helping me and the club out.

Colin

To all Scholes Yard members,

IMPORTANT MESSAGE.

Please note as of today we are starting to change the locks at Scholes yard from key locks to combination locks.
The combination code for the lock will be sent to all scholes yards members via the email address you registered your membership with on joining this year.
So please check your inbox and spam box for the email.
If you didn't supply the requested email address, do so now by sending it to [email protected] so that you will receive the code.
If you don't have an email address available, please confirm your mobile number.
All people requiring the combination code will have their membership checked before it is sent out.
An email will be sent out later today with the access code to all present members.

Please note, the barrier leading down to scholes yard will remain as KEY ACCESS so keys will still be needed.
Both gates giving access to the water will be by combination lock.

People who are not scholes members will not receive the code.

Thank you all.

Dear All,

A gentle reminder of club rules with regards to fishing.

This has been made necessary due to people either not knowing them or blatantly ignoring them.

Fishing Rules All Association Waters

Members must be in possession of a current R.A.A Permit (key where required) or day/guest ticket if available and Environment agency rod licence when fishing.

Children 14 or under must be accompanied by an adult (Over 18) when fishing

Members must ensure their peg is litter free before and after fishing. Any member found leaving rubbish, line, hooks or other debris and found guilty of such an offence by the association committee will be invited to attend a disciplinary meeting that could lead to suspension or termination of their membership or access to day tickets.

A member shall not fish more than two rods at any one time.

Each year various association waters may be closed to facilitate work parties, matches, coaching or improvement.

No fishing will be allowed during the period 14th March until 15th June inclusive on rivers or at any other time notified to members.

Fishing with blood worm and joker is not allowed on any of the association waters unless used as a part of a specific coaching session by a club coach.

All fish must be returned live to the water.

All hook sizes must be single, barbless and no bigger than size 10 (unless required for coaching).

Fishing or feeding of trout pellet is not allowed on any association waters.

Keep nets should not be used on any RAA waters unless being used in an official match/competition or coaching session designated by the Management Committee.

No alcohol or illegal drugs should be consumed on any RAA waters whilst fishing.

No treble hooks are allowed or live baiting to be used on any of the Association waters.

No Braided line or Braided hook lengths (unless plastic coated) to be used.

No overnight fishing on any RAA waters

We're sure most people fishing the clubs waters abide by them but there's still some of you out there not doing.

Many thanks

RAA Committee
