Dr Kenneth Leslie Grieve (Ken), West Helmsdale

It was with great sadness that RBLS Helmsdale learnt of the recent death of one of it's members, Ken Grieve. Ken's wife, Betty, has asked that we post Ken's funeral notice on our page.

The branch acknowledges Ken's support over recent years and his work in helping to maintain the war memorial. We send our sympathies and support to Betty and to Ken's wider family and friends.

Margaret Cowie (nee Murray)

The Helmsdale RBLS branch were saddened to hear of the recent death of Margaret Cowie, just short of her 105th birthday.

Margaret was a long time supporter of our branch, having served in the ATS (and earlier in the NAAFI) during WWII and in its' aftermath. Born and brought up in Helmsdale, Margaret continued her support of our branch and the work of Legion Scotland even after she moved to the USA.

Our members extend their sympathies to all her family and friends.

We will remember them

A huge thank you to those who helped to arrange today's Remembrance Services at Helmsdale and Loth and also to those who attended. A special thank you to Ben for piping at Helmsdale in the rain.

It was a pleasure to have members of the armed forces present; three members of the ship's crew from HMS Sutherland were able to attend both services, and the officer commanding the Caithness unit of 7SCOTS came to the Loth service.

Our Poppy Stall will be back tomorrow in the area between Spar and Timespan between 10:00 and 14:00. Pop along to get poppies, wooden remembrance crosses and stickers.

We hope to see you tomorrow.

Helmsdale Collections for Poppyscotland

Collecting tins/ poppies are around the village.

There will be a poppy stall with poppies, wooden markers and stickers on Saturday 1 November and Saturday 8 November between 10:00 and 14:00 by the flower beds between Timespan and Spar.
